Very nice fella, but a dud as a Magistrate. Lets the attorneys run the courtroom and control the schedule. Fails to keep cases moving forward at a reasonable pace, instead letting things linger on the calendar.

Intelligent, well-prepared for motion practice - reads papers beforehand and does his own research beforehand - makes himself available and works hard to facilitate settlement - his written decisions are very scholarly and practical - it is a pleasure to appear before him - he makes the attorneys feel as though he were working with them as he resolves issues of law and fact, and gives parties the chance to resolve matters in the best way posible for both sides.

Pleasant, civil, practical, but a bit too lenient with an attorney who was sloppy and failed to abide by any deadlines or the Federal Rules

A nice man but overly deferential to large corporations and big law firms. Does not provide a level playing field. Does not enforce his own orders. Does not explain his rulings, some of which have been inexplicable. It would have been nice to at least be able to explain to the client how the judge came to certain of his conclusions, since I cannot even imagine how he reached them.

A wonderful judge, intelligent, fair, wise. Fabulous, except in one respect -- does not enforce any discovery deadlines, lets cases drag on a bit.

I concur with comment #1361. Magistrate Levy is bright, patient, even-handed and level-headed. He should be kicked upstairs, though I don't get the impression he's sufficiently connected politically to ge tthe nod.
