Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:4.3
Comments:
My memory was that there was little Fair about Judge Fairbank. Though certainly not the worst judge, she will allow civil defendants, especially federal ones, waste resources. Not the worst but tolerable.

Litigant

Comments:
I have to agree with the Comment #: 7379; this judge is incompetent, and on top of that, quite adamant about her incompetent rulings. She refuses to follow Ninth Circuit precedents or the Supreme Court precedents. Issues rulings based on her own brand of "unprecedented injustice", thus setting her own precedents, but refuses to certify orders for publication; obviously she knows that her rulings do not comply with the clearly established law.

When there are other competent judges in the Central District, unclear as to how she managed to "sit by designation" in the Ninth Circuit!

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Rating:9.5
Comments:
About as good as it gets for a federal district judge. Explains herself well, but does not take forever to do it. Have definitely disagreed with her, but I knew she gave me a fair shake. She definitely tries to get it right.

Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:8.8
Comments:
Very diligent and approachable federal judge. Worked very hard to resolve a difficult and complicated business litigation matter. Courteous to counsel and litigants alike, which is quite rare in the judges in this District.

Rating:2.7
Comments:
This judge is a disaster. Doesn't know or understand ERISA. Ignored the law or maybe didn't know it. Violated Rule 11 and plaintiff's rights. Should be taken off the bench.

Former California Superior Court judge, before that Assistant U.S. Attorney, friendly, fair, listens well and "gets it"
