Litigant

Rating:8.0
Comments:
He is an excellent, smart, and compassionate judge who hardly every gets angry or raises his voice. He tries to get the attorneys to cooperate and work together. He cares more about "fairness" than following the rules. He is also very skilled as a mediator and tries hard to get the parties to settle.

I'm a 25 year practitioner writing my first review because these criticisms are unfair. I've been before Pregerson several times, he granted MSJ against my client in a case where technically he probably should not have but probably saved us from an awful trial. He is a good judge.

Unintelligent, uninquisitive, lazy, depressed personality. Just treading water because he has no place better to be.

Loves government and establishment, is lazy and stupid, thankfully having taken senior status. A dumb fake liberal.

Way too liberal, and bends the law to suit his liberal leanings.

Just a dope with a liberal reputation, based only on who his actually liberal father is. He needs to take his lifetime pension and disappear.

This beneficiary of nepotism is not his father. He is of low intelligence, very respectful of the government, and very, very weak.

He ruled based on what he thought was fair, and not the black letter of the law or the contract. Aside from that, he's fine enough as a judge.

This judge is stupid, lazy, and overwhelmed by his job, yet pleasant like a fool is pleasant.

This judge is not very smart, and bends over backwards to appear not to be liberal -- very strange.

Comments:
He is a very dull-witted jurist, with government biases, who rarely has read any of the paperwork. He will lock onto an idea, no matter how ludicrous, and it will then be impossible to change his mind. He has a bit of insecurity around smarter lawyers, as he is living in the shadow of his more famous father. I actually heard him tell a lawyer in his courtroom that Constitutional issues are "just technical" issues and he doesn't want "technical" arguments. He will cover up government misconduct when faced with it, rather than deal with it. He is a sad reflection on why legacies make bad judges.

Not a mental giant. A rich kid, whose dad got him the job, who works hard, but just can't get the job done.

A nice enough guy, but simply put he is unqualified to be a judge.

He took my case from US Federal Judge William Rhea they both were working the case. This judge held a hearing right before US Federal William Rhea scheduled. Pregerson took over my case by going to his dad to force US Federal Judge William Rhea to turn over evidence he gotten. Judge Pregerson took over as US Attorney and as my attorney which the court index proves he had no court reporter was present in fact told me and my attorney he did not want any record my case however he forget each case is recorder so, there is a court index and transcripts. After many years the FBI is currently investigation dean D. Pregerson hopefully soo. I will testify against Dean D. pregerson in court or at least before he is sentence to Feder Prison.

Blatantly inconsistent in sentencing. Asks the wrong questions and doesn't give credit where credit is due. The simplest logic is either ignored or beyond his ability. And my defendant received a better sentence than she expected. With a little more thought, the outcome would have been better. But he doesn't seem capable of it (and it doesn't seem to be a case load issue).

I had a civil case with him a few years back. He's accessible and his clerk is more than helpful. He may not be the most engaged judge, but he's definitely not one the handful of train wrecks currently terrorizing attorneys and litigants in CD.

Comments:
He's a better than average judge in the CD Cal., though obviously one or more criminal defense attorneys who have posted here (sometimes with remarkably similar comments - seriously, do we really think two different people elected to use the word "dullard"?) don't think much of him. Far better than some of the Dubya-appointed judges, like Anderson, Wright, and Walter, whose interests appear to be largely in protecting corporate defendants and dismissing cases with as little work on their part as possible.

Comments:
This dullard got his judgeship by being the son of a politically-connected federal judge (who, in turn got his judgship by being the brother-in-law of a then congressman) and by bundling money for Bill Clinton's first presidential run. He means well, is courteous, but is as dumb as a post. Compared to some of the other bench-warmers in the Central District of California, he is not so bad, but as an absolute matter, he hardly is qualified, even after many years of on-the-job experience, to be a federal judge. A shame.

He is too scared to do the right thing. He stays in the middle no matter how strong the position is on either side.

A fine judge in our firm's civil lit experience, although, like another poster says, he's not the heavyweight his father is (regardless of your views about his father's liberal leanings).

Certainly not virulently anti-consumer or biased in general, unlike many of the other very low-rated judges here, like Judges Anderson, Walter, Wright.

I'm not a criminal defense lawyer, so I can't opine on the views expressed by them.

So slow on logic, intellect, opinion and truthfulness. Seems to look the other way !!! Shows lack of Judgement in personal matters IE contributing to VP Biden and pleading ignorance . Very untruthful with this and other matters.

This judge is of average intellect, but tries to be so careful that it compromises his efficiency and judgment. He is very slow to rule and his work is erratic, depending, it seems, on who his law clerks happen to be at any given time.
