Judge Feuerstein is a tyrant. The "absolute power" of her appointment has clearly clouded her judgment and her sense of justice. She is more concerned with berating attorneys and keeping her docket thin than your client's interests. BEWARE. I echo the sentiments of the attorney who recommended a rule 41 dismissal.

This judge is a classic example of a multiple personality disorder in robes. You never know what you're going to get when Her Majesty takes the bench. But you can bet your boots that fairness, knowledge of the law and sanity will never be exhibited by this cuckoo bird of the bench.

Sandy started out in District Court in Nassau County handling criminal cases. She would come back late from lunch carrying Bloomingdale's bags.
One of the dumbest, least qualified judges on the bench. Has no business sitting in Federal Court.

This Judge does not belong on the bench. She is more concerned with insulting attorney's rather than the facts of each case. In fact, during my hearing, she specifically stated that she did not read the Complaint filed and is not familiar with the law.
The next time that I see this particular Judge assigned to my case, I will surely voluntarily dismiss my own case and re-file in another venue or jurisdiction to avoid being constantly insulted, humiliated and scolded in open court.

This Judge is short tempered and has no desire to hear the facts of the case before her. She is pre-disposed against insurance companies and made the same speech to each attorney before her on 3 different cases - that the insurance company took premium and didn't want to pay the policy. One of the cases didn't even involve insurance. I agree with the other comments, this is a bad judge - plain and simple.

She has terrible judicial temperment. She unnecessarily tries to parse attorney's words around to try to humiliate them in open court. Her attempt to have 'sport' with attorneys appearing before her is unbecoming of a federal judge.

to her credit, she tries to keep cases moving and tries to be up on the facts of her case.

I have few cases in Federal Court and unfortunately I was assigned to Judge Feuerstein for my case. It turned into one of the worst experiences in my entire legal career which is over 35 years. She is unbelievably arrogant, petty, and clearly is biased. She had no knowledge about the law applicable to our case and made no attempt to educate herself. An absolute disgrace to the any bench, including a park bench. Thank goodness I am rarely in Federal Court. It is hard to believe that she has a lifetime appointment.

Rocket docket. She gets through her cases on rapid but humane schedule; very thorough does not miss a point. Gives the lawyers helpful cue''s so as not to prejudice the jury. For example when the lawyer can''t think of a way to let their witness know the preecise question without leading she says sustained when the lawyer crosses the line rather wait for the whole objection to distract the jury. She gets up from the center of the bench and walks to the side to listen to the witness to subtly tell whatever side that its going to be downhill overkill --they would have the best effect if they quickly wrapped up now.

I just finished serving on a criminal case jury in her court, and Judge Feuerstein was fabulous! Extremely fair to both the prosecution and defense. Extremely pleasant to the jury - always asking if we were too hot or cold or whether we needed a break and she even brought in candy to pep us up in the mid-afternoon period when, after hours of testimony, I think everyone's eyelids were drooping. She is a real human being. Not pompous or full of herself one bit. She made serving on a jury as pleasant an experience as I imagine possible.

This judge was not familiar with the case, although she made major decisions late and too close to the trial date. Coming in to court she favored the defendant - it was very obvious. She was cocky, arrogant and rude to my lawyer. She did not allow a fair trial and was very obvious about how she was helping the defendant.

Bright, and kept control of what could have been a silly situation. She showed compassion but was still in charge. Good sense of humor, and "fairness" should be her middle name.

Recently had a sentencing before her on behalf of husband-wife contractors charged essentially with procuring contracts by fraud. Also had tax complications but a fair amount of mitigation (victims of union extortion; fully performed on contracts; no priors; some health issues; otherwise decent people). Guidelines were about 3-4 years. She gave them each 15 months. In other words with the right mitigation she didn't feel herself bound by the Guidelines. We submitted pretty thorough papers and she clearly had read them. She treated clients decently and it was a fair outcome.

Very partial to some attorneys. Uneven disposition: cordial and informal one day, impatient and formal the next. Seems to take it personally if you challenge her.

Judge Feuerstein, who was widely regarded as exceptional while in the New York State system, is proving to be of the same caliber in the EDNY. Hard to explain some of the other comments I see here barring disappointed outcomes.

Comments:
I Appeared before Judge Feuerstein in a civil matter that incidentally carried great importance to public policy. Judge Feuerstein completely misconstrued the law. It is true that many laws usually have a gray area that allows one party to argue A, while allowing the other party to argue B, while allowing both parties to claim they that their respective positions are correct and that their adversary's perspective position is incorrect. However, there are many laws in which the issues are straight forward and will only support a particular interpretation. I appeared before Judge Feuerstein arguing the latter sort of issues (those which are straight forward and will only support a particular interpretation). Judge Feuerstein’s bias for the corporation was obvious and brazen (to say the least); she did not have a correct understanding of the governing law, appeared determined to determine the case in favor of the corporation (to the detriment of public policy), prohibited argument of my client's position, and made all of the arguments for the corporation and even instructed the corporation as to what to do so as to support her decision in its favor. Additionally, she did not know the facts of the case.

Judge Feurstein has not shown herself yet on her predispostions in criminal trials. She is perfectly likeable and accomodating to lawyers schedules. She seems to have difficulty in grasping complex ideas.

Generally pleasant to appear before. Seems to have a demonstrable pro-business bias and a very superficial understanding of factual issues.
