I couldn’t agree more with the comment below. The most biased, sexist & racist judge I’ve ever encountered. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he’s disgraceful. I don’t know how he’s still on the bench!!!

Horrible judge. Biased and unfair. Unfair to minorities and women. Will not even abide by his own rulings. Twists and invents facts for his own purposes.

I was a victim of harassment by a landlord. I testified honestly, with text messages, emails and photos as evidence, and expressed how uncomfortable, concerned and even fearful I became as a result of the landlord's erratic behavior. I trusted that my legal rights to quiet enjoyment and my privacy would be protected and respected in the court. We consulted a lawyer and determined it was best for our family to leave before the lease ended. The landlord WITHHELD the most basic requirement she had of providing us with our deposit back and/or reasons why she kept it, with a list of expenses charged back. This was NEVER provided to us in the 2 years the landlord and her lawyer played legal games, stalling the outcome, refusing to provide information, an opportunity to resolve and they made it difficult just to return the keys! Astonishingly, Judge Griffin took a few hours break during our trial and when we returned he allowed the landlord to bring in an envelope they claimed to have sent to us years ago. Despite our letter of request for it years ago, they never responded and did not include this ever in evidence. This was an ambush. The landlord lied repeatedly on the stand and we had text messages to prove this and Judge Griffin did not care/consider this at all. The landlords attorney went as far as to mock me,in front of Judge Griffin, for being too sensitive. It appeared very clear when Judge Griffin's judgment came in that something unethical had happened here and we were victims once more. There was NO consequences for her physical invasions into our home, her verbal harassments and lack of professionalism as a longtime landlord, with a history of poor reviews/reputation from her neighbors and by previous tenants as a "scammer" who works alongside her lawyer, to squeeze money out of tenants by abusing the legal system. Worse, it was evident that Judge Griffin and the lawyer has a friendly relationship, that raised a red flag immediately if we were even get a fair hearing! Our original claim was set at a different courthouse and the landlords lawyer had it moved to Griffins' courtroom...WHY? Sadly, Judge Griffin had no concern that we were harassed, that the landlord lied, that I felt real fear, that she has a long history of using the court system to further victimize and capitalize on her prey, and he awarded her the full amount PLUS interest and not one single concession on our behalf and NO explanation. WOW. Shame on them all for not respecting the legal rights of tenants. Judge Griffins courtroom lacked structure and did not provide an unbiased, professional venue for the victims. California law is supposed to be strong in it's protection of landlord abuse. Judge Griffin's lack of concern will continue to perpetuate further abuse to victims.

the laziest judge with the worst instincts I have ever encountered. He never makes a decision and would rather see years of delays by obviously wrong parties rather than rule on summary judgment. Judges like this one are the reason that the public doesn't trust and truly despises the legal system.

Comments:
The worse part about this judge is not his lack of understanding of civil procedure, and specifically employment law matters, but his rude and pompous demeanor. He failed miserably to manage his calendar and when he didn't want to hear anymore, he becomes impatient, interrupts you, makes snide comments during your argument in an effort to belittle and intimidate counsel. He is unprofessional and not judicial.

Judge Griffin is a very fair judge. I was defendant in a pro per suit and it seemed that he felt bad for the plaintiff and lack of familiarity with the legal process. So it seemed he was trying to help out the plaintiff more than he should. He listens to all sides no matter how long it takes.

He does not seem to really understand civil procedure and has difficulty grasping arguments. His rulings are poorly reasoned -- he does not seem to think things through.

A very nice guy who knows little about civil (as opposed to criminal, he says) litigation, cannot manage a civil trial, and has poor evidence skills. How he was law review is a mystery.

Complains about his work load and seemingly punishes someone who brings a motion. Very affable and cordial, but not hardworking.

A lovely man who has had a good deal of criminal trial experience, but little civil, and is more interested in protecting his record than keeping lawyers in check. Don't have him for a trial judge for a few years.
