I couldn't have gotten into a better judge's court room. This judge changed my life. I was a misguided, lost, unfocused youth stuck in the revolving door of the justice system. On my last case, I got Judge Barreto. His fairness, willingness to see both sides of the story, the attention and thought he put into his decisions...changed the course of my life. I changed my life, in great part because of this man and a few others who intervened in my life and treated me like a human being a not a criminal. I have a good, rewarding life now. My many months in Judge Barreto's courtroom proved to be a pivotal point in my life. I really look up to this man. Hearing of his untimely demise from a mutual acquaintance/colleague was something that really hit home and hurt, like losing a friend, even though he probably has no idea what an impact he had on my life. I only wish I had taken the time to reach out to him and thank him. I hope he would be proud to know he inspired me to pursue my career in law. I had hoped to someday seek him out as a mentor in my field, someone who I could learn a great deal from. This is a great loss. May he rest in peace. -Chris

Judge Barreto was a very competent and very fair prosecutor for years. In my times in his court as a judge, he has been equally competent and fair.
