He dismisses cases right before they go to trial if it requires too much mental dexterity and he doesn’t want to deal with it. He also appears to favor the defendant if it’s the state of CA as a state employee himself

Judge Mackey is 93 and has abandoned reading the pleadings. He relies entirely on this law clerk and his clerk gets it wrong a lot. Oral argument is pointless because Judge Mackey has no idea why you are standing before him or the issue you are discussing. Because he reads nothing, he is incapable for doing anything other than endorsing his clerk's written tentative ruling. I have heard the same complaints about his going back ten years. It's quite sad. Presumably, there was a time when he actually did the work of a judge.

I tried my case of defamation of Character Case with this senile disqualified Judge M. Mackey and he ignored all the preponderance of the evidence submitted by the Plaintiff and he failed to schedule Trial Court Hearings to win my case and intead he honored the unacceptable crooked Defendant's demurrer request.
This case currently has been filed with the Court of Appeal to obtain justice.

Geriatric. He is literally 94 years old. This is why CA needs age limit for judges, which the majority of states have. Physically feeble, mentally incompetent. Total nightmare.

Monumentally horrible. I had already won multiple cases against opposing party who filed this frivolous case in front of Mackey, who was so biased, without even trying to hide it - he literally ruled in their favor on everything, without even reading my motions. I filed 170 challenge for bias, and he actually wrote that he as the right to make continuous erroneous rulings. He called me vexatious (though I have never lost a case) for filing a motion to disqualify him, and I succeeded in disqualifying him. Total nightmare. You should have seen other party's face when I succeeded in disqualifying this loser judge -- that party's gravy train of winning motions came to a screeching halt in front of new judge. Mackey is 93-years-old, cognitively impaired, and has wacky angry emotions indicative of Alzheimers patients (if you have ever been around one).

The Judicial Council needs to take action. This judge does not read papers and goes off the cuff based on wrong facts and law. I see the comments about him being senile and I unfortunately have to agree. When there is no court reporter the clerk tries to cover for the judge. What a travesty of justice.

Most terrible judge in Califfornia, unless you are rich. A homeless, random man off the street would be better.

Comments:
Worst judge that I have ever been before in California, and that includes many that tried to rule on motions that were not even before them, because they had not even read the descriptions in the schedules. He will protect any wealthy defendant. Epstein or Weinstein or Maddoff would have loved him as their judge, because he would protect people like that. I urge that this judge be investigated and wiretapped, including by the IRS and Franchise Tax Board.

How does a person of this man's caliber get to be a judge anywhere?

The honorable judge seems prejudiced. You stand no chance if you are not from his "circles" and his "Circles" cannot possibly have people who don't look like him. He doesn't even try to hide it and he seems extremely proud of it and seems to continue to thrive doing the same. One needs to pray they get a different judge. Otherwise even if opposing counsel confessed to the crime, and has zero aptitude and lacks any relevant argument, they are privileged by virtue of being "in the circle" Justice is not usually served by this judge...he serves prejudice and perpetuates it by exercising his discretion according to his values or lack thereof.

Senile judge, thinks he heard it all so he doesn't feel the need to hear argument from anyone disagreeing with his views, even when he is clearly wrong on the legal standard, simply not interested. Will just rule for the big corporate boys, probably the same ones who have been bankrolling his entire career.

When that scandal came out about the superior court judges double dipping and collecting an extra illegal annual $50,000 in benefits and salary, he was the one very instrumental in getting law passed so the judges could legally keep that extra $50,000. And in fact was successful in doing so. Senile? Absolutely! And has been for many years. The guy is close to 90 years old. Nice guy. But needs to retire. And rules in favor of big business; then again, don't most of the judges rule that way? I would answer that question with a wholehearted YES!!

I had him in a fee dispute in which my client owed $700,000. We had a legal malpractice claim against a big name downtown firm. I got a defense verdict on the fee claim. Mackey granted a non-suit on the legal malpractice claim. The jurors told me they were going to award us $6.5 million. He favors big money clients like law firm, corporations and insurers. He is so out of it now its surprising he finds the Courtroom. Memory is shot. 170.6 him

This judge is senile. At minimum, the Commission on Judicial Performance ought to investigate and evaluate his mental state and ability and actions.

Judge Mackey is a no-nonsense, get-to-the-point-and-don't-try-to-snow-me judge. He will listen to your arguments, if you have something useful to add. But he has lots of experience, and he has heard it all. He is not going to put up with any flawed technical arguments that lack substance. Get to the point quickly and clearly.

It's not that he's too old--he was bad right out of the gate. Flipping a coin would produce better rulings on trial objections. He's pleasant enough--just not very good.

I like his courtroom and staff. This judge is outstanding. He is impartial and brillant. He gives justice to all. If you have a case with him, be happy, because you'll be glad. He has handled many cases, including the Carol O'Connor case, the Bob Barker case, the Paulina Rubio case, and many more.
