Re: my post on Hon. Randy Rhodes;
I would like to state my AMAZING Attorney
ESQ. Magda Madrigal with EDN had no knowledge or input in regard to my post here. What I state are the facts and yes some opinion. It is how I feel due to very poor choices and gross rulings by " your honor" Randy Rhodes. My feelings and opinions will NOT change, as the damage has already been done, but I guarantee this is NOT OVER bc it was INJUSTICE at best. I Live in a country where justice is supposed to be served-NOT a country where justice serves ITSELF. JN

if you are a defendant in an unlawful detainer case, kiss your home "goodbye". This judge did NOT allow my attorney to exhibit crucial evidence in my case such as local city ordinances that the landlord must comply with in order to evict a tenant. He demanded we nave an expert witness from the city with only 5 days to subpeona the expert (s), therefore knowing we would not get an expert especially as it fell during the New Years Holiday. He would not allow Text messages between Landlord & Tenant where the Landlord cancels the eviction, which was what I raised in my answer, he did not allow buildings and safety reports/corrections from the city and again insisted we have an expert there to testify even though I also raised this defense in my answer. He had options for dates and knew our time constraints leading up to us being sent to his court, but chose to start the day we arrived. I have no faith in our justice system after this. I saw the judge entering the cafeteria after me and the landlord took the stand and he looked the other way. In the cafeteria the landlord was standing in the order area and judge Rhodes said to him "good job". Im assuming this was referring to the landlords testimony which was alot of mistruths and "i dont remember".The landlord said "thank you". once again as the judge turned around, saw me and looked the other way. I dont know about anyone else, but I feel this type of behavior is against conduct. He made it very clear that these type of civil suits were beneath him with comments like "last friday i had five life sentences..." then to put me down for having a fee waiver " me and a few other judges figured out it costs the state 55k per day to run this court room". UNACCEPTABLE. Not everyone lives on a judges salary, Mr. Rhodes--excuse me, I mean your honor! In short what he did today was further promote criminal activity by landlords by indirectly saying "you have my full support because i'm not letting the jury hear the facts". what a sad day for our judicial system and what a shame to those of us who told nothing but the truth on the stand. Isnt the truth supposed to prevail ? Not on Randy Rhodes dime it doesn't. Thanks your Honor for showing me not to trust in the Untied States Judicial System.
He also warned my attorney not to appeal the case bc he has a 90% success rate re: appeals bc he has the documentation to back it up. Clearly, the truth does not matter to Judge Randy Rhodes. I have no faith in our justice system after this. Clearly, he favored the landlord out of the gate. I never had a chance. this is not how our court systems should be operating. This is not how a judge should be doing his job.

Please hope you do not get this judge in a civil case if your lawyer fails to show up. He will shame you, which is extremely unprofessional. He looked at my brother-in-law standing in the courtroom, when the plaintiff was not even there and her attorney was only there "by phone," and said "you are not really here." My brother-in-law tried to tell the judge that he had just hired an attorney (who forgot to show up), and the judge demeaned him further, not even acknowledging the fact that his attorney blew it, not my brother-in-law. We are going to request a different judge! I heard that Judge Rhodes used to be a good judge when he was in San Fernando -- what happened? Is he burned out, or does he just hate civil cases?

Excellent judicial temperament. He tries very hard to be fair to both sides - which can be frustrating at times. He will let you try your case. I'd have no hesitation to try either a plaintiff or defense case before him.

If you are a defendant in a medical malpractice case, he is your judge. He will allow defendants to stonewall plaintiffs with discovery to the point that you wonder if he ever read the intent of the Discovery Act. He will not give plaintiff's lawyers sanctions even after making findings that the defense's conduct made the motion to compel necessary. If you are a plaintiff's lawyer, you definitely do not want a court trial in front of him.

This judge ordered the defense attorney to turn over all clients' statements made to his attorney over to prosecution before trial.
