Possibly the most well liked judge in the building. There's a reason why: 95% of being a good judge is manner. There's not much variance among the judges as far as rulings go. It's not just that we lawyers appreciate how respectful he treats us. It's also that the audiance and general public observe a rational, compassionate human being on the bench. That spills over to the perception of the court system in general. There are some bench officers who are rude, sarcastic, petty, selfish, etc, etc. We all know who they are. Here is a list of the best judges in CCB, in no particular order: Richman, Olmedo, Ohta, Shapiro, Egerton, Swain, Edwards, Landin, Sterling, Lomeli. These are all judges that Los Angeles County should be very proud of. I might have left some out, and for that I apologize. I need to mention the judge who I think has the most courage (though not the best personality): Wapner.

I felt like I learned a lot as a juror in his courtroom. And I enjoyed the experience.

Very fair to both sides. A great judge.

Very funny guy...appears to have absolutely no clue that his clever repartee creates major delays in the process and wastes a ton of other people's time...but I would pay to see his stand-up act. He certainly spends a lot if time rehearsing it in his courtroom.

Hon. Craig Richman is a treasure. Really the most enjoyable judge I have ever had the chance to witness in person. My days spent just in jury selection were filled with many laughs, and I learned a ton along the way. He is a credit to his field.
