It is an appeal brief that dissects Amy Shoots from the hip Pellman’s overreach and piss poor judicial misconduct. This obnoxious tyrant concluded that respondents disrespect to his sister equated to potential abuse to the mother, which is not included in the code. It is now this litigant’s conclusion that Amy “ shoots from the hip “ Pellman’s performance behind the bench equates to foul RUBBISH. Run if you have a case pending in this obnoxious judge’s department. She is close to HOLLYWOOD which can only be explain her telenovela courtroom theatrics. 2 thumbs Way Down.

Amy Pellman’s performance in a nut shell and I quote “ THE TRIAL COURT ERRED WHEN IT DENIED APPELLANT’S MOTION TO DISMISS, GIVEN THAT RESPONDENT INITIALLY ADMITTED THAT SHE DID NOT SIGN THE DV-100 FORM AND NEVER GRANTED HER ATTORNEY PERMISSION TO SIGN THE FORM ON HER BEHALF, AND ONLY CHANGED HER ANSWER ONCE SHE CONFERED WITH HER COUNSEL. Claims of evidentiary error under California law are reviewed for prejudice applying the “miscarriage of justice” or “reasonably probable” harmless error standard of People v. Watson (1956) 46 Cal.2d 818, 836. Under this standard for ordinary error "it is the burden of appellants to show that it is reasonably probable that they would have received a more favorable result at trial had the error not occurred." (Christ v. Schwartz (2016) 2 Cal.App.5th 440, 447.) The court erred when it denied appellant’s motion to dismiss. As based on the fact that respondent’s DV-100 form was not signed under the penalty of perjury, appellant’s motion to dismiss had clear merit.

Several times during the hearing, appellant’s counsel crossexamined respondent on assertions in her DV-1005 form that greatly conflicted with her testimony in court. (RT 962-963.) Appellant’s counsel then asked respondent if she had even reviewed the form. She answered that she “could have.” More revealing of her lack of veracity and credibility, when she was again asked about the facts she alleged in the DV-100, she admitted that she “never read this before.” Respondent also admitted that she did not sign the DV-100 and “never gave [her] attorney authorization to sign on her behalf.” (RT 962963.) Appellant’s former counsel then moved for dismissal because a request for a domestic violence restraining order must be verified and signed under the penalty of perjury, and the request in this case was not. Respondent’s attorney—Mr. Segall-Guitierrez—admitted that there were errors made on the DV-100 form, but argued that the other statements were accurate. Guiterrez claimed that he did not sign on behalf of the client and did not instruct his staff to sign her name either. (RT 963-964.) However, the signatures on the form for both respondent and counsel Guiterrez are the same. (1 CT 16). In each instance the signature is two initials—J and a G—in script that stands for James Guiterrez. Thus, respondent’s counsel—an officer of the court— perjured himself by claiming that he did not sign the form or instruct his staff to sign for his client. The two signatures are identical and reflect counsel Guiterrez’s initials.

I had the misfortune of becoming another victim in the long list of innocent individuals who hoped for justice, only to be butchered by Amy Pellman's evilness. It seems she earned the notorious nickname "shooting from the hip" by conducting field trials in her kangaroo courtroom for far too many years. I read the reviews before the hearing, but I couldn't believe they were real. I thought that as a 'judge,' she would see what's truly going on and make fair rulings. No words can adequately describe how biased, rude, and unfair this so-called 'judge' is! I hope the victims and attorneys who read this extensive history of abuse, or who had the misfortune of encountering this mean-spirited individual, can somehow come together and take action to stop this injustice. If Amy Pellman reads this comment, I hope she takes a long look in the mirror, confronts the monstrous reflection, and changes her ways. She's paid to attentively listen to both sides, employ common sense, and make impartial rulings—not to prematurely take sides and penalize innocent victims who turned to the court for help. It's clear she derives pleasure from toying with people's lives, showcasing her cruelty.
I find it difficult to believe that any of the positive comments on AP here in this forum are genuine; they're likely penned by AP herself.
Can AP transform into a better person and rediscover the humanity she lost within her soul? I hope so, but I doubt such a transformation will ever occur. She needs to undergo reevaluation and someone with higher authority need to step in and take away the power that was given to her by the court.
Pellman doesn't even bother to listen to testimonies because she's so biased, she already made up her ruling before the hearing even started.
Consequently, she ends up making a fool of herself as she attempts to explain the rationale behind her rulings, which often contradicts the presented testimonies. Thankfully, everything is documented in the transcript.
If you find yourself in Amy Pellman's Kangaroo court, either flee for your life or prepare to file an appeal right from the outset."
However, If you are reading this and you are a criminal or you know you are guilty, i agree with the prior comment below, continue with AP and pray she ruled in your favor before the trial started, cause you have 50% chance of getting away with murder even if you been caught red handed lying or worst.
Yes, Amy Pellman is a bad judge and a terrible person.

When she was a student at MHC, Amy Pellman ’82 served as president of the Student Government Association. But she discovered her real passion for human rights, and the rights of one fellow alumna in particular, working for Amnesty International in the summer of her junior year.

Iride del Carmen Marasso Beltran de Burgos ’76 was a supporter of Archbishop Oscar Romero, the revered advocate for the region’s poor. She and her husband and son had moved to Guatemala following the archbishop’s assassination in El Salvador. Like millions of her countrymen targeted for their prodemocracy leanings, de Burgos and her son were allegedly abducted, or “disappeared,” by the Guatemalan military in 1981.

Amy got wind of Iride’s situation and made it her personal goal to shed light on the case and the ongoing struggles for freedom in Central America. Back on campus, she circulated petitions, gathered donations for Amnesty International, and worked to bring the atrocities in Guatemala to light through letters and articles.

Tragically, Iride was never found. But almost thirty years later, Amy is still working in the name of justice as a family court judge in the Los Angeles Superior Court, where she spends her days defending the rights of children.

Before assuming her current position, Amy worked as an attorney advocating for foster children and parents in dependency court. She found that the rights of foster children remained a relatively unexplored area of law, and that the lawyers involved in those cases had very little training or information. She developed a training manual.

“Children in foster care have no voice,” Pellman says. “They have been taken away from their family for abuse or neglect, they are vulnerable and extremely underrepresented.”

Amy also served as the legal director for the Alliance for Children’s Rights, which provides legal services for impoverished and abused children. She helped found National Adoption Day, which opens up courtrooms across the country on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to finalize adoption papers and help provide thousands of children with homes.

Today, as a family law judge, Amy handles issues ranging from multimillion-dollar property divisions to custody battles. But she remains focused on the rights of those whose voices, like Iride’s, are often absent.

“My courtroom is child-centered, not parent-centered,” she says. “Children are always the first priority.”

I posted Judge Pellman's resume. I don't know her and I don't practice in LA. I did it because I don't like bullies and you appear to be a bully. You are disturbed about other judges doing you wrong over the years (in essence, finding against you). You view her as a placeholder for your anger and an indefensible target for all your bile. She is a supervising judge and you beleive she should be a crusader riding along to review every perceived injustice. That's not how the justice system works. I simply googled her and saw that her background is impeccable. You tarnish her well earned reputation (through hard work and devotion to public causes and justice) with your "woe is me" cries for help. You're no better than the lawyers and judges who you decry as being part of a cabal of injustice.

I commend Amy Pellman for doing the often thankless job of supervising the family courts in LA county. I don't practice family law, but here's a blurb I found on the web about her. Pretty impressive devotion to families and children.

*****
Amy M. Pellman, is the Supervising Judge for the family law division of the Los Angeles Superior Court. She was elected Commissioner in 2005 and appointed Judge in 2008. Judge Pellman has spent most of her time on the bench in family law assignments with a five-year hiatus at the Edelman’s Children’s Court. She continues to serve as the only Los Angeles Superior Judge for surrogacy cases.

About three years after standing in front of Judge Amy Pellman, I now have full custody of my son and I am fostering his younger sister from the same mother. The judge did not give any credence to my claims of mother's drug abuse and neglect. So after another year of child endangerment and me being charged with 2 counts of Failure to Protect (even though I could not have been clearer in front of Judge Pellman) The children were both taken away from their mother and placed with me. The Judges bias and laziness could have cost both children their lives. The mother is still struggling with her demons and most likely will lose all parental rights within the next year. The children are finally thriving and in a safe and loving home. No thanks to Judge Pellman who sentenced me to drug testing and therapy, yet had NO notes for the mother with two DUI's and a drug overdose within the previous two years of being in her court. Both children have been with me 100% of the time for the last year, and they were with me 50% of the time for the year prior. Their mother is now homeless and still believes what Judge Amy Pellman said in court about me. She said. "You sir, are not this boys father!"
Despite her, both children are now SAFE.

After reading some of the comments by other posters here, I must concur. I was treated in a similar fashion. This judge had decided who I was and what she would rule before hearing anything I had to say. It appeared she hadn't even bothered to read my written responses. She verbally attacked me and my character for no reason at all, before I even spoke really. She went on to dismiss missed support payments to me during a period when I was sick as if they didn't matter, but forced me to pay more support on a rental property I always lose money on.

She had not been the judge that heard the initial pleadings and was clueless about the course of events that lead up to that court date. She was rude, abrasive and dismissive once I did attempt to defend my position. From the moment I spoke she interrupted and chastised me. I felt like she entered biased and nothing could dissuade her. Men don't stand a chance before this judge.

Would not allow me to speak and she formed an opnion and told me that is how it was and repeatedly denied me the ability to submit evidence to contrary. Her demeanor was forceful and she words hostile and unkind. It was a very bizarre court hearing. I have never been in front of a judge that had formed an opinion and assertted it without any willingness to review the evidence or case and was bias before the case began. Words cannot express the amount of difficulty dealing with Pellman. I've had many family law judges in the past and she is by far the worst judge that I have ever had. I considered papering her at the beginning. I didn't and I deeply regret it. She is exactly what everyone has expressed negatively. She is biased against men. As a male, she denied my child support request erroneously, insulting me by tauntingly asking why I"m out of work and why I can't find work and the fact that I should easily be able to find work while she sits at her cushy chair out of touch with the working people, complaining about her workload as a overpaid public servant during Covid-19. I was informed by multiple attorneys that she has a close working relationship with opposing counsel. I already see the favoritism that someone else mentioned in these reviews. She has picked her side (not mine) and is a staunch advocate for that side. Her erroneous decision created a domino effect which propagated problems for multiple hearings that I have. I am still picking up the pieces from the disaster that she has created. Someone mentioned in the review empathy and careful listener? Really? because her courtroom manner is horrible. She appears irritable, short tempered, unfriendly, unsympathetic. When opposing counsel attacks me personally, Pellman seems to chime man hating emasculation as an insult to injury. I say send her back to the Kiddies where she will likely do less damage to children and families. To the person that comeented about the class action suit. I'm all for it but Judges have immunity to this type of recourse. It would likely go nowhere. I was doing research and I did see that you can file a confidential complaint at the Commission on Judicial Performance website. I suggest that everyone that feels they have been mistreated or failed by her, file a complaint against her. Provide as much detail and evidence if possible. Good luck to all who have the disadvantage of having to be heard in her courtroom.

She is not a fair judge. She is clearly biased towards women, even if unrightly so or without cause or reason.

Having witnessed her proceeding today in court, it's clear she handles many cases a day and does not try to actually help the individuals/families involved, but rather chooses one side - and makes judgements based on her opinions formed within a 15-20 minute period.

Truly sad, as she'll never know how much the weight of her ill-informed and quick judgements cost other individuals and their families.

Judge Pellman read and beautifully recapped the major points of our RFO. She immediately grasped the weak case of the opposition and was wary of their attempt at sleight of hand. Ruled in a balanced and fair way. One of the best family judges!

The Judge does not seem to follow the rule of law. She arbitrarily makes decisions and is clearly very biased toward the male party. She does not read what has been provided the court nor consider case law. She is a detriment to the bench and the court.

This judge is really leanient when it comes to people that have alcohol or drug addiction. She still insists that the kids have to spend time with those parents even if they don't want to when most other judges will not. Even if the kids have had a bad experience with the parents its ok, they will still have access which is nice.

The best judge ever. Judge Amy Pellman allowed accuser to speak as much he or she wanted but on the end by their words Judge Pellman proofed them wrong. Judge Pellman wouldn't tolerate litigants laying in the court. Also, Judge Pellman had lots of understanding to both parties situation. She always protected children during the process of their parents divorce. Judge Pellman was transferred to different court during the process of my divorce. Next judge was Judge Byrd. I came down from heaven to hell.

In my opinion, this judicial officer should not be on the bench. In one case, she completely ignored prevailing case law and the facts of the case that do not fit into her rulings even though those facts are material. She renders decisions which are needlessly very costly to litigants appearing before her. She cites cases to support her rulings which actually hold just the opposite to what she claims. She appears very biased, such that once she makes up her mind as to who she wants to prevail, there is no swaying her. She forces litigants to jointly hire experts and then refuses to accept the experts analysis. She does not have the proper judicial temperament and should be avoided at all costs.
