Civil Litigation - Govt.

Comment #: CA31438
Rating:5.3
Comments:
Judge Ottolia does not appear interested in granting a defendant summary judgment even if strongly supported by the facts and the law; he will deny SJ on the thinnest technicality. He depends on his law clerks and in Riverside they are quite pro-plaintiff. He has an excellent court room demeanor. As a trial judge, Judge Ottolia tries to be "fair" rather than making a ruling based upon the law. This is an unfortunate abdication of his role as judge.

Daniel Ottolia's name tells one everything one needs to know about this self-serving functionary. The sort of man who goes to confession, the sort of man who is indifferent to the popular will, but is guided above all by the prejudices of his priest and of his uneducated but fervid mother.

The End of Life Option was approved by a majority vote. I guess you will only understand your suspension when (not if) one of your family members, colleagues and/or friends are in the unfortunate position of needing options when facing an agonizing illness that is terminal.

76% voted for End of Life Option Act. Leave it alone, find something more important for you to do. And may you be voted out of office very very soon. I thought I would never ever dislike a person more than Trump, Daniel A. Ottolia, you are worse than the worse.

As a former Court of Appeal Attorney I can say that limiting a party to five days in which to file a writ is unprecedented. What is this man thinking??!!

What kind of moron would block California's Assisted Dying law? It would be a vile, cruel jacka** who shouldn't be a judge. Ottolia should be ashamed of himself for acting like a complete fool in this matter. Why does he get to play God? Ottolia is a sick, sick man and I uuse the word man lightly.

Comments:
I've appeared in a few cases before Judge Ottolia, and I disagree with the reviews below. In my experiences, his rulings were well-reasoned and based in the law. I would venture a guess that some of these negative reviews were submitted by attorneys/parties that had poor cases.

I would certainly not mind getting more cases before this judge.

If you are a plaintiff or represent a plaintiff, this judge should be at the top of your "kick list" (CCP 170.6). He is shockingly pro-Defendant. He will do everything in his power to kill, or at least compromise your case. He overtly favors the defense. He should not be on the bench. Stay far, far away from him. Any positive reviews he gets are from civil defendants (businesses) who are benefiting from his bias. You are better off with ANY other judge, or forum, even arbitration.

Comments:
He granted judgment to defendants despite clear and certain evidence submitted that they slandered me. Signed witness statements were disregarded by this outrageously defendant biased judge. As others have stated, there is little doubt he takes "donations". Statutory laws, case law and rulings, facts and evidence mean nothing to him. If he dislikes you and is biased against you, the stench makes it hard to breathe in his courtroom. His disdain and malicious attitude is raw and incredibly overpowering. This guy should be de-frocked.

I am finishing a two week trial in his courtroom. I have enjoyed having him as a judge immensely. I had appeared before him on motions but this was my first trial with him. Excellent judge.

He is the worst. He is shockingly ignorant. He refuses to apply well-settled legal principles. If you are a plaintiff, he will grant any motion the defense brings, even if it is completely stupid. He does not understand even the most basic civil litigation rules and processes. Truly one of the worst judges of all time.
Paper him at all costs if you are a Plaintiff. Otherwise, sharpen your writ skills. If you are defendant, file every motion possible, without regard to merit, and you will win.

Appeared before him in a long civil trial with the most obstreperous counsel I have seen in 30 years of practice. Counsel was particularly rude to the court on numerous occasions. i did not know such judicial patience and calmness existed until I saw it for two months with Judge Ottolia. He was exceptionally pleasant and kept his humor. In spite of the treatment he suffered through from opposing counsel he maintained his fairness, which given the treatment, I did not think possible.

He seemed deeply interested in being fair and treating all with dignity. I enjoyed the experience a great deal under difficult circumstances, thanks to Judge Ottolia and his exceptional staff.

We have been chosen to his court in Riverside county Superior. I have read about him and. He immpresses me too the fullest. Not many judge's. Know there case's very. Well do to lack of Lawyer's mistakes. Some do not understand that he is human and I respect anyone who can put up with lawyer's who are not prepared. I have read his Bio and I am very immpressed. So if you feel you were un-fair treated take it up with your lawyer and stop putting blame on good decent judges like Hon.Daniel a. Ottolia. Looking forward to meeting him.

Comments:
This judge is incredibly hostile, arrogant, unjust to the max, and mean-spirited, and there is a high probability that he takes bribes from defendants. He ignores the applicable statutes, abuses plaintiffs with insulting treatment and gives nothing but extreme courtesy to the defendants. He ought to be in jail.
