Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:9.6
Comments:
Judge Brown sets the standard for what a judge should be: fair, hard-working, inquisitive, and very very smart.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA34820
Rating:1.0
Comments:
Be interested to see if the recent glowing report was from the judge himself or a friend of his. This judge is owned by several attorneys who pay for him to give speeches. Makes up his mind and makes up facts. He also creates more work for the Court and the clerks. He is not well-liked by the clerks.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA34791
Rating:10.0
Comments:
Judge Brown presents excellent judicial temperament and tries his cases bases on the evidence and facts presented to him and the law that applies to each case. He treats both attorney and self represented litigants with respect.

Litigant

Rating:Not Rated
Comments:
Picks favorite lawyer, let’s them cancel MSCs and simply signs their order drafts— especially former clerk’s. Feigns to be sympathetic to the aggrieved party but is not. Ignores due process. Rules by favoritism, not by law. Allows lawyers to drag cases out for years that should have been ordered to ADR before any hearings. Ironically , violates Brown Act routinely, while claiming to know and abide by it.
At nearly each and every hearing, says the cliches:
“That’s a lot of water under the bridge.”
“What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?”

Judge Brown is owned by a few attorneys. He makes irrational decisions which violvate the law

Civil Litigation - Private

Three times I filed a motion to deem matters admitted. All three times there was no response by defendants. The third time he gave them an additional 7 days to respond. Still no response, so his punishment? To have me start the process all over again.

Complete disregard for the law

Judge Brown is by far one of the most studious, hardworking, thoughtful and fair judges on the court. It is obvious he does not rely on research attorneys but actually reads everything himself. His judiciousness does not favor any side but is based upon well reasoned opinions as to what the law requires. He has ruled in my favor and against me in law and motion and sat as the trial judge on one of my cases. Sacramento is lucky to have him as a judge.

Comments:
When he takes it under submission he takes time to support the tentative ruling.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA9037
Rating:10.0
Comments:
Judge Brown is courteous and gives the lawyers and pro pers all the time they need to state their case. His preparation is rare among judges and his temperament is excellent. I am shocked to see low ratings by some, who I suspect were not prepared. He has ruled for and against me, but always gives my client's a fair hearing and has done his homework.

Excellent Court demeanor. Fair gives the parties their day in Court.

Comments:
Judge Brown is probably one of the hardest working judges around. He is very smart and currently one of two law and motion judges in Sacramento. I am surprised to see lower ratings for him--I suspect that they are because many local defense attorneys are used to getting their way regardless of whether or not the law is on their side. I hold him in the absolute highest regard. He's ruled for me and against me, and on those latter occasions, it was still the correct holding. Be ready at oral argument, he sometimes knows the cases better than the attorneys that show up to argue them.

Judge Brown is an amazing judge. He's what every attorney wants: someone who listens, thinks, works hard, and comes to very well-reasoned and insightful opinions.
