What others have said about Hon. John E. Martin

Comment #: CA4026
In my opinion, he only makes decisions in the best interests of his favorite lawyer. He does not look at all the evidence and is very biased. I have seen him make decisions in the best interests of children on only a few occasions. He usually rules on the side of the man. In my opinion he does not like women very much. It's sad to see this community suffer because of his poor decisions!

Comment #: CA3284
Judge Martin makes arbitrary rulings based, in part, on plaintiff's appearance & demeanor, instead of substantive evidence. Furthermore, he is too stubborn to admit he made a mistake is his previous ruling. This contributes to wasted time is his court and unnecessary appeals because of his incompetence. Local attorneys are aware of this and advise clients to try again with a judge that is more fair.

Comment #: CA3282
This judge bases initial decisions on insufficient evidence, then compounds his error by not changing his decision despite overwhelming support contradicting his ruling.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: CA2386
Judge Martin is one of the best judges I have dealt with in 25 years. He is very conscious of constitutional law. Probably the most unusual thing about him is he applies the presumption of innocence in bail, per-trial and at trial. I can't say I agree with every ruling he has made with me, but he is one of those judges that considers both the law and argument in his rulings. Considering the other judge in that county, it is very tempting to do a blanker 170.6 to get into Judge Martin's court.
