I sat in on a trial with a man who robbed someone and eluded police. The public defender on the case was incapable of defending this man as it was her first court appearance. After the man asked her to file several motions and she refused, the family hired an attorney to step in. The judge refused to allow him to take over and he forced by the DA to plead no contest accepting a 30 year sentenance. This judge should nto be celebrated, she should be tried fo rher own crimes of humanity.

Some view Judge Cassani as very academic and fair. Others view her as very unfair. In my opinion, she forms an opinion of a lawyer's ability early and then rules for or against that person relentlessly. She seems to be often overturned by appellate courts, which is not easy these days.

This is the judge who used a cattle prod on a criminal defendant! Not joking ... google her. She treated my client (accused of a white collar crime) as guilty before she heard anything. Threatened to revoke bail and shackle. Again ... not joking. Fortunately, she was also tough on the prosecutor. She was helpful in achieving dispo - she bullied both sides. I will 170.6 in the future.

Judge Cassani is extremely intelligent and more than willing to involve herself in complex legal issues. In fact, I believe she enjoys this very much. She has one rule for attorneys in her court: "Don't be stupid." She values intelligence, preparedness, and one's willingness to act as a realistic advocate for one's clients. She is more than willing to listen to a well-researched and investigated motion, and will engage in lively discourse. She may have a conservative agenda but she is fair and open to persuasion.
