If you are a minority litigant you should run from Johnson. He feels he is above the law. Absolutely no respect for prior courts rulings and or rulings and findings from the California Court of Appeals. Johnson consistently will make negative comments about the California Court of Appeals and laws he does not agree with. RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!!!!!

Comment #: CA7489
Judge Michael Johnson is a passive-aggressive judge who will negate all the evidence on your side even if overwhelmingly in your favor and supported by multiple witnesses and evidence and twist the facts of the case in question so he can rule in favor of your opponent all the while being friendly and giving your side the impression you are winning - even your opponent will think you are winning. Then he will use all his discretion to create a decision as the “purported” trier of fact to support his personal position on the case with complete and total disregard for the law, facts, and evidence and craft a decision in such a way to make appeals difficult and costly. He has no moral or judicial integrity or regard for the truth. If you are stuck with Judge Johnson as the judge of your case, always request a jury trial!! Simply put, Judge Johnson should not be sitting on the bench.

He is one of the very best judges that I have ever had the pleasure of trying a case before. He is very punctual and hardworking, and he lets the lawyers try the case. He has a great temperament, and is very good with the jury. His court staff is excellent. We need more like him downtown.

Fair and evenhanded, listens to both sides. In civil, slight tilt towards D, but flexible, lets the lawyers try their case, an absolute privilege to be in trial with him. All LASC judges should aspire to be as good as this judge.

One of the best judges in central. Hears both sides and gives a detailed ruling. Keeps the trial moving and doesn't telegraph his views to the jury.

Judge Michael Johnson is pro-defendant in civil matters. He will disregard, to some degree, the law in order to reach the result that he thinks is correct. On the other hand, he has an excellent judicial temperment. He treats the attorneys in his courtroom with respect.
