Civil Litigation - Private

Taking part in a trial with Judge Patrick Meyers was an absolutely awful experience. I have never been treated more disrespectfully than how judge Myers treated myself and my client. Not only does he demean, yell, berate, attack and lash out at any given moment, he also tips his hand on his thoughts of the case. Judge Myers goes from calm to absolutely lash out crazy in less than 3 seconds. My client had to settle our case after judge meyers reviewed the expert designations and jeered at my client in open court that he would not allow our expert to offer various opinions. When asked to clarify what he meant, he told me I would find out what he meant. Truly a terrible terrible judge.

I've never felt the need to do this before--as an attorney I usually "roll with the punches" and understand judges have their own styles--but I was shocked by Judge Meyers' conduct in the courtroom today. He yelled, screamed, turned red in the face, jabbed his finger, and towered over my witnesses from the bench. He accused me of intentionally breaking rules of court, and refused to clarify what he was even asking for. I've never even *heard* of a judge as belligerent, hostile, and intemperate as Judge Meyers showed himself to be. In my opinion his rulings were terribly decided, he did not appear to be impartial (based on a long off-the-record "chat" with opposing counsel about a case they worked together many years ago), and he is temperamentally unfit to be a judge. I've gone before a lot of good judges lately. Many of them work hard to do justice and are even-handed, even kind, to litigants and attorneys. Frankly, it's a shame this man is still on the bench.

Was not interested in hearing my loved ones preliminary hearing from the moment we walked into the court room. He kept looking at the clock, rude, short tempered. Only read the case 30 minutes prior to starting. Worse Judge I've ever encountered in my life. Cant believe our tax dollars pays for a man like him. If you are assigned to his court room, REQUEST A NEW JUDGE. If you have a bad morning, should not be sitting on a bench.

He gives the most thorough voir dire of any criminal judge I have ever been in front of. He also believes in a fair trial, and will not allow prosecutors to go overboard to get a conviction. However, he does have a temper, and one never knows when "Mt. Meyers" will erupt. But, he is an equal opportunity judge, and will flame out on either side.
