Sitting near retirement in Norwalk criminal court, the comments below about his laziness match my experience, but I believe underlying the laziness is arrogance that b/c he is wearing a robe, he deserves respect regardless of his conduct. Typical of third tier law school grads who would never make in the private sector and become government hacks.

Comments:
This judge has no clue concerning product liability cases or any other complex issues. He ignores the law and rules based on what his clerk tells him. He is lazy and unable to rule equitably. After his ruling on a summary judgment was overturned on appeal, he allowed the defense to make a similar motion. No sanctions were meted out even though he denied the second motion (of course). He has no backbone, so if your case has complex issues stay out of his court.

I recently had a two-day preliminary hearing in his court. He is one of the best jurists on the bench. Although he held the defendant to answer to all the charges, his patience, temperament, impartiality, respects for counsel are commendable.

Comments:
I had a complex civil litigation with Judge Sahagun, with many contentious discovery motions and other matters, and he was clearly in over his head. He didn't care to actually regulate discovery, and expected us to simply work it out between counsel, which of course favored the side which was being a dick. He is lazy and uninvolved in the matters before him. His "yeah, whatever" attitude got to be annoying after a while, and in the end hurt my client.

I appeared in front of him twice when he handled the law and motion calendar in Norwalk. He has a fairly pleasant demeanor, listens to argument, then normally decides the case in favor of the plaintiff, regardless of the merits of the defense position. After two appearances and two bad rulings, I began filing peremptory challenges whenever I had a motion in Norwalk.
