Horrible judge (and that's being kind). Has no business being on the bench. She locked up my client after a plea and refused to sign a medical order. As a result my client nearly died in IRC custody (where he spent 5 days until taken in critical condition to hospital). He underwent brain surgery and wasn't expected to live, but Sheriff had him handcuffed to bed and 2 Deputies in his room 24/7. Under Sheriff asked me get Deputies removed and Judge Shubin refused. Took three hearings and she finally signed an order (after nearly a month), all the while mh client in chemically induced coma and part of his skull removed. Imagine the cost to taxpayers. My client survived, was later in nursing home for TWO YEARS, and finally brought home where he requires full time nursing since he is paralyzed. Then probation, knowing his condition, filed a PV and this Judge ordered my client to personally appear. The family had to pay for medical transport from 60 miles away so judge cold question my client (who cannot speak nor move). Then she refused to reduce to misdemeanor because he had not complied with probation. Two years and two hearing later she agreed to reduce, but not expunge. By the way this was a felony DUI in which my client "drove" 6" (long story). I hope to never appear in her courtroom again. Given her background, one would expect a lot more.

She is one of the worst judges in L.A. County, and fits with all the bad judges especially in Pasadena, and the San Gabriel Valley. She disfavors the underdog, makes her ruling on based on who she views as politically powerful, and ignores the laws and facts. If you get her in a civil matter, small claims or criminal, preemptively strike her under California Code of Civil Procedure 170.6 (either side can strike judge preemptively without explanation as long as the judge hasn't started presiding over the case). If you get Judge Dorothy Shubin, you will not get a fair trial.

This is perfect example of one that should NOT be in a position of Judge. Egotistical, bias, and closed minded to any facts or evidence presented before her. Rules based on preconceived opionion rather than facts presented before her. A perfect example of whom should NOT be IN ANY position to determine ANY matter regarding decisions of which effect people's lives!

Very discouraging the level of bias demonstrated toward criminal defendants. A vain and ego driven woman. Politically motivated, Don't stop here notify the Commission on Judicial Performance. The judiciary at the Pasadena Courthouse needs cleaning.

Prosecutor favoring. Hears prosecutors argument and rules accordingly. Oversteps her judicial discretion, basing rulings on what she thinks rather than what the law is. Flips her hair back, rolls her eyes, and always looking at the clock, as if she wants to return to her chambers for a nap. Not a judicial officer that's respected, merely a rubber stamp for the DA. 170.6 this judge. Terrible, terrible, and terrible,. she is one of the worst.

Was unwilling to listen to testimony or previous history of the dependent. Was callous, cold, and easily frustrated. She seemed to want the highest prosecution despite the specifics of the case or the strength if the defendants argument, Even the D.A. thiought she was draconian.

I had the misfortune to have Shubin hear a simple small claims case in Alhambra Court. After two minutes it was clear that this egomaniac was more interested in ruling on issues other than the facts before her. At every turn she cut me off in attempting to plead my case. When it came to cross-examining the defendant, Shubin jumped in to practically act as the defendant's counsel. Shubin's assessment of the matter was very one sided. Moreover, her smug attitude and arrogant demeanor did nothing to help in adjudicating the case; Shubin only created a tense courtroom environment.

Dorothy Shubin is one of those judicial officers that gives all judicial officers a bad name. It is unfortunate that the taxpayers are shortchanged with such a poor judicial service.
