Civil Litigation - Private

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in 40 years as a litigator. Horrible temperament — delights in belittling lawyers in front of their clients. Clueless about the evidence code and terrified of actual trials, so she chops everything into bits and guts your ability to have one. Reads the briefs but goes off on her own tangents and can’t be brought back. Has her favorite attorneys (who might be able to get her to the appellate bench) and fawns over them — nasty to everyone else. Pro-defendant because granting dispository motions against plaintiff gets cases out of her court. Is intelligent but couple that with her negative personality traits and you have a problem Judge. Please, God, let her retire. If she were to go to the DCA she’d be a disaster.

Judge Dunning is one of the worst judges I have ever appeared before - in the top three for sure. She has a terrible temperament. She is impatient, abusive and given to fits. It seems she worked as a clerk at the Court of Appeal for a period of time. That shocks me because she is not particularly smart or articulate. I also understand that she has ambitions to be on the Court of Appeal herself. The idea that she could become a justice at the Court of Appeal is revolting.

Most lazy and incompetent judge I have encountered in 25 years of litigation in numerous federal and state courts.

I was very unimpressed so much so it's hard to believe she is a Superior court judge she is certinally the worst judge I have ever seen.

She lies among the judicial cancer, pro per antagonist, that has become so common in the court system today. In her courtroom, only those represented by lawyers can expect the courtesy of procedural due process. For everyone else, go ahead and appeal, she doesn't care. She knows few will actually follow through, and she can't be fired, even for making a deliberate "error".

Singularly one of the worst trial judges I have appeared before in over 30 years of practice, in multiple states and including federal court in several states. Refuses to discuss evidentiary rulings in a bench trial, despite the fact that she seems to be unfamiliar with the Evidence Code. Completely lacking in judicial temperament and was verbally abusive and openly hostile to me. Clearly plays favorites to the point of refusing to follow the law and puts her refusal on the record and tells you how it will be done in her courtroom notwithstanding things like the Code of Civil Procedure. She refuses to check citations. Unless you are a local lawyer, do not even think twice, never take her. In a nutshell, she is no more qualified to be on the bench than I am to perform a heart transplant

Really good judge. Listens to all facts, for as long as necessary, and then rules. Very fair-minded. Reads all papers.

I had her as a DDA on at least one case and I find her to be much more evenhanded as a judge, as she should be.
