While in Judge Hunt's court I have seen attorneys challenge him on a 170.6 even though the officer did not show and the case is being dismissed show for traffic infraction trials. That is how bad this judge is.

Can we give this guy a zero?
He was demoted from Civil Justice Center to Harbor Justice, when he should have been hung by his scrotal sac instead. This judge should be 170.6 every day of the week including Sundays...he is absolutely pro defense and big firms.
Seems good buddies with another senile judge- RB at CJC.

Awful Judge. He will always talk about how he spent his weekend reviewing the case and how difficult a judge's weekend is- and he knows nothing about the case. All day I said- no your honor, no your honor...he had no idea we didn't have a lien or were there for an MSJ. Slightly senile.

Hunt I wont even call him a judge is the most bias Prim a Dona you can even meet. Be assured there is no trial since he has already made up his mind and doesn't want to waste his personal time with the basis of the case. He is just buying time until he goes to JAMS-Binding Arbitration with his buddies and rake innocents over the coals. Whatever you do if Hunt is assigned to your case is run, don't walk to nearest exit. A disgraceful, obnoxious self centered autocrat who should be removed immediately.

This judge is an example of how unfair our
legal system is! I have believed in the system until I saw him! My daughter received a ticket a highbeam infraction.
She was so intimidated by him she did not know that she lost her right to traffic school. When she went to see him he was so ARROGANT and denied her the right even though she did not have a prior record. Not only will this increase her insurance but she will also lose her job as transports autistic people. His mannerisms toward her were so rude that I can also assume he discriminated against her because of her Persian name.If my taxes are paying for his salary then I will do anything to make sure this man is not reelected. Shame on him!

Ok, I am probably the only attorney who likes this judge. Most attorneys dislike him because he takes no BS. He starts off the trial asking defense counsel to explain each and every affirmative defense. Not prepared, you lose. The key is to let opposing counsel argue with him and he will eat them up. LOL The last case I had with him, he took 3 months to decide but came out with a 50/50 ruling on a title issue that was right. He said it was a difficult case but took the time to come to the right decision.

If you have a crappy case, avoid him Good case, be prepared.

In a criminal trial for excessive speed, Judge Hunt advised me that he did not want to hear my due process agreement in regard to my motion to exclude evidence when the prosecution failed to produce evidence and that the Constitution did not apply. Needless to say, Guilty. Judge Hunt is Guilty of failing to be competent to hold a position of Judge.

The worst judge I have been before in my entire career (25 years), having appeared in the courts of over a dozen states. This judge is not just incompetent, but truly seems mentally unstable (rude, flippant, dictatorial in contravention of litigants's rights, dismissive of the law and seemingly deciding issues at a whim). He is a complete injustice to the justice system and those who have the misfortune of appearing before him.

It's funny, the comments posted on this site about Judge Hunt are so true. I was trying to explain this judge to others, but lacked the adjectives to begin to describe the horrendous manner in which Judge Hunt handled this case.

H did not listen to either party, and he was rude and generally showed a lack of respect to both litigants.

In short, this man clearly should not be a judge.

It's scary knowing that our legal system allows a so-called neutral arbitrator to settle cases in this manner.

While I understand the question and answer method of helping sort thru the case, sometimes a judge should listen to each party's arguments.

Very disappointed in this judge.

Has now been assigned to Small ClaimsCourt, and FOR VERY GOOD REASON. He was impossible to tolerate when in Central Justice. Frequently dinged. So small claims litigants beware -- do not put your hands in your pockets when speaking in his courtroom. He takes that as a personal sign of your disrespect of his power, and he is power hungry. Hope he stays in small claims, as I don't have to go there ever.

Appeal today B4 Judge Peter Wilson-contrast amazing. Judge Wilson patiently allowed each side to present and counter. Judge Hunt didn't allow either side a hearing. Told litigants they could only answer his Q's-which didn't get to the heart of the case. Arrogant-brusque eager 2 go to lunch

Very Arrogant

Continually lectures the citizen jurors and threatens them with legal action and jail time but does not follow his own rules

We had four or five lectures on being on time including one where he told us if we were hit crossing the street during lunch we must have the EMTs call and tell him or he would issue a warrant for our arrest -- after lunch Judge Hunt was 20 minutes late and did not even bother to appolige to us - just started like we had caused the delay instead of him - unfortunate that people like this has so much power

The negative comments below are disturbingly accurate. Hunt hates his job, the attorneys before him and has no respect for the legal process at all. Zero interest in securing a just result. Zero.

Worked incredibly hard not to learn the case. The comment re he only asks questions and wants no information about the case is spot on. He has managed to devise a system to insure a combination of injustice and minimal judicial effort.

He clearly did not read the briefs yet told us he did. And when questioned re same went on to emphasized why the case before him was so unimportant and did not warrant his attention. An unreal comment from the bench in front of the clients.

I will never see him again pursuant to CCP 170.6.

He is a disservice to the judicial system and should retire since he simply doesn't care. Judge Hunt can be unpleasant, will interrupt and berate, and will feel inclined to embarrass both lawyers regularly. But he isn't as bad as some other. Some of his rulings make no sense to me, but if you can look past the personality issues you could do a lot worse, unfortunately. That said, I've seen cases settle just to get out of the courtroom.

He may be the worst judge I have encountered in decades of practice and five thousand court appearances, and in my matter with him my client was successful on all counts yet I am compelled to warn against him. He is arrogant and abusive and enamored with his pseudo brilliance which is apparent only to himself. He will take over the case, develop or create immaterial facts, spin them to create a version of the case separate from reality, and then fashion an insipid ruling to apply to his faulty understanding. The lawyers will have little or no involvement as the case is hijacked and efforts to correct his substantial errors will not be well received. A tragedy is that his methodology takes much longer to develop than had he read the pleadings, which in my matter he clearly had not. I would not appear before him again unless I had a bail bondsman at the ready or felt my client's position was so lacking in merit that the client had no chance of success in any other court, so why not take a chance on an alternate reality. Do not appear before him unless there is a court reporter. He is a disaster or horrible injustice waiting to occur. Paper him. Have your hands in your pockets as you do.

Judge Hunt is the worst judge I have ever come across. He doesn't understand the law and will not listen to you once he takes a position -- even if it is wrong. He frequently makes mistakes in his rulings, which results in parties spending otherwise unnecessary time to correct and/or appeal.

He is now in probate so at least he no longer handles civil case. However, a 170.6 motion is absolutely necessary for this horrible judge.

Judge Hunt is one of the most self-righteous, arrogant, and egotistical jurists I have had the displeasure of appearing before. Most troubling, however, is that his sense of self-importance, perhaps the result of his Ivy League education, gives him the notion he is above the law.

Judge Hunt does not apply the law to the facts. He is extremely biased and decides who he wants to prevail. He favors Mormons, disfavors Asians, and generally dislikes plaintiffs. In Machiavellian fashion, he plots and plans the manner in which he can accomplish his objective. Litigants that deserve to lose, win. And litigants that deserve to win, lose. He feels slighted for not having been elevated to the court of appeal. To compensate, he has his clerk call counsel to waive oral argument so he can avoid oral argument to prepare orders to accomplish his predetermined results. It is travesty that the judicial system has permitted Judge Hunt to continue presiding over important civil matters. He should be assigned to small claims court where he can pick the winners and losers without regard for the law.

When I was a young lawyer, I had a case in front of him, and there are three things that I remember about Judge Hunt: (1) no hands in pockets (what on earth?); (2) he did not care about lawyers' schedules, and never allowed for continuances, but he always said "go back to your office and make some money" (again, what on earth?). I wanted to say, "You made me drive here to OC because you won't do Court Call, then you kept me here all morning waiting, then you say go back to the office [in L.A.] and earn money?" I hate this guy and I purposely searched him by the search term 'hands in pocket judge,' just so that I could make these spiteful comments about him. He is the worst judge that I have ever been in front of in any state or county and at any level (state or federal), and that's a lot of judges!

Judge Hunt is very difficult personally. I tried a two-and-a-half-week jury trial in his courtroom, and it was a very difficult trial. My plaintiff opponent was a flamboyant trial lawyer, with a wealthy client, and they spent almost $1 million in attorneys' fees going after my client. I wanted Judge Hunt on the case because he did a good job of handling the plaintiff's counsel. Nevertheless, it was a very painful trial with many irrational rulings. The plaintiff got a small verdict, but appealed. Judge Hunt was upheld on appeal.

Just like all the other reviewers have noted, Judge Hunt is an arrogant jerk. If you have two reasonable parties attempting to litigate a case, this is not the courtroom where you want to do it.

However, in our latest case before him, we were the reasonable party and we were going up an incredibly arrogant defendant (even more so than the judge). If there's one thing Judge Hunt absolutely won't tolerate, it's a litigant who is more arrogant than he is.

Our opponent in a clear breach of contract case (who obviously owed the debt) was trying to stir up doubt before the judge. Hunt was having none of it. After our opponent was slapped down by Judge Hunt for his arrogance in a couple of pre-trial hearings, the defendant agreed to settle with us for the entire amount of principal owed.

So if you have a case against an entirely unreasonable, arrogant opponent, keep it in Hunt's courtroom. Otherwise, paper him and get out.

One of the most condescending, arrogant and disrespectful judges on the bench. Just an absolute tyrant. I can't stand appearing before judges who demean everyone before them, especially attorneys who have been practicing for many years.

The one positive anomaly about judge Hunt is that he has a very pleasant clerk who is actually helpful and friendly. Honestly, most clerks are just horrendous, miserable people in general, but it's more pronounced when the judge for whom they work is a #%@^&&. Judge Hunt's clerk is great, and I hope she continues to keep that attitude.

This judge likes to intimidate attorneys. He must have some kind of neurotic picadillo against people who put their hands in their pockets. If you do that, the entire hearing comes to a screeching halt, so that the judge can spend the next 10 minutes lambasting the poor guy who violated this unwritten rule in his courtroom. Of course, all legal analysis also comes to a screeching halt at that point as well. The basic problem is that this judge lacks any sense of "judicial temperamnt" or evenhandedness.
