Civil Litigation - Private

Great judge. Read the papers, very fair, and provided plenty of advice for warring parties during the trial. Was very even handed in dealing with the attorneys. Pleasant courtroom and a true professional.

This judge does not read your papers; he is lazy. He is not a scholar. He does not like being challenged on the issues before him either. He takes offense and holds it against you. He is still a sensitive momma's boy after all these years.

Comment #: CA6772
He simply should not be a judge. He has a great deal of company. He is not a critical thinker...just critical.

This guy was a staff attorney at the Court of Appeals for years. I do not think that he has a good concept of actually representing clients. I'm not sure that he has ever worked in a practice. If he did, it was a very long time ago.

He thinks that he is a genius. I remember him running around the Court of Appeals spouting off case citations by memory, thinking that it made him sound smart. He is obnoxiously smug and arrogant. He surely is impressed with himself. He is conservative.

He will deny your attempts to overcome, and do whatever he can to uphold, an arbitration agreement -- often even when it is completely one-sided.

Overall, you cannot ding him because there are so many other judges that are so much worse. Pander to his ego and you will be okay.

I had three cases with him, and they all settled. His pre-trial rulings were sound. The results were fair. His calendar was a bit long, as this judge gets deeper into the case than a motion warrants.

Comment #: CA4760
This judge lacks critical thinking skills, and gets bitter when you confuse him by assuming that he has them. He plays games to make the process difficult, in order to encourage parties to settle. He will refuse to move trial dates, and will require distant attorneys and parties to personally appear in court every time. His staff play along with the same game, so expect them to give you a hard time.

Comment #: CA4656
I have tried a couple of cases in his court. He comes off as stiff and robotic. He definitely does not want to make any tough decisions. He will defer rulings on critical pre-trial motions. He is reluctant to sustain objections during trial. He generally comes off as being petrified of being overturned on appeal. Also, his law clerk and court assistant are openly rude to attorneys, and apparently proud of it. I overheard the clerk bragging about berating and "humbling" lawyers.

He was a staff attorney for so long he does not seem to remember what it is like to practice. No practicality. Ditto the comment about Napoleon complex. Don't get on his bad side.

Had him as a family court judge and he was very fair

This judge has a serious Napoleon complex.
