What others have said about Hon. Irma Poole Asberry

Civil Litigation - Govt.

Comment #: CA27468
I agree with the comments expressing that she is a kind and respectful judge, as it’s always been pleasant to be in front of her, but complex matters are not her forte. If you have anything other than a black letter law demurrer, you need to take it elsewhere, unfortunately. She rarely seems prepared to take oral argument, almost confused as if it were the first time she had heard the argument before. I disagree that she is “tough,” as expressed by other reviews below, and “fair” is not completely accurate as she seems unwilling to put the effort into understanding complex legal issues.

Judge Asberry is extremely pleasant, hard-working and kind. She is tough but fair. She was very thoughtful in her rulings and took the time to review and analyze the case law. I very much enjoyed trying a case with her and disagree with comments suggesting litigation and/or complex issues are not her forte.

A wonderful, diplomatic and respectful person. Evidence and complex litigation is so far above her her skill set though that I think re-assignment to settlement conferences would be most appropriate. Been a trial lawyer for 30 years, and Judge Irma should really not be assigned civil cases.

Out of her league. Not fully able to handle complex civil case decisions. Readily appealable in many cases. Those who have rated her highly probably have not had complex issues in front of her.

Judge Asberry is the best judge in all of Riverside County. If you are assigned to her, you've hit the jackpot. She exemplifies what judges are suppose to be - fair, impartial, intelligent. I can't say enough good things about her. I wish I could be assigned to her for every case I have.

Civil Litigation - Private

J. Asberry is a consummately fair judge, even tempered, and diligent in her obligations. It has been clear to me in my several appearances that she has read all of the pleadings before her and thought carefully about them. She also takes care to review exhibits attached to pleadings and knows them as well as the practitioners.
She has a very calm demeanor and can be subtly forceful when she needs to be, without being heavy handed. It is also very clear she works hard to be fair to all sides and is careful with substantial decisions.
The one trait she shares with most judges is her adherence to the tentative decisions regardless of argument. Argument is rather perfunctory.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: CA5014
New to criminal, I was concerned she would err on the side of pro-prosecution but was happily proven wrong. She does not appreciate courtroom antics or theatrics and was very fair at sentencing.
