Funny. The lawyers that work In the same field feels she’s good. I call that kissing ass.

I watch one hearing of hers and she gave someone 25 years for nothing. She is unfit to judge anyone in this work. Even a PhD in phychology and sociology she couldn’t figure this one case out. Instead her ignorance blinds her.

Put innocent behind bars and guilty let out.
That’s what I’ve seen. A broken system. Those who support it are just as broken.
She should be stripped of her title.

Credit has been destroyed and titles stripped from people that are honest and innocent or had good intentions the whole time. Why is she any different.

My son was killed and Judge Maryanne Gilliard was the presiding Judge in the criminal matter related to my son’s death. The Defendant pled so there was no cross-examination or opportunity for the District Attorney to conduct any form of cross-examination. The Public Defender made a statement for the Defendant which was riddled with lies. Judge Gilliard took those statements and proceeded to lecture my oldest son in court. The District Attorney brought this case so we were only there as victims and to support our son, brother and grandchild who had died. Judge Gilliard told my oldest son, among other things that he could have been a better older brother. For a young man who was grieving the loss of his younger brother and best friend now has to live with this statement from a Judge. Truth is, Judge Gilliard does not know my family at all. We are a very close, loving and supportive family and my oldest son could not have been a better brother. This statement has caused so much grief and damage to a young man who was a victim. I hope no other family who attends a hearing to support their loved one ever has to endure this pain. This statement was completely out of line and so incredibly unprofessional and just mean. To lose a child and not be able to help him and then to sit in court and listen to lies and have the Judge make a statement like this to your living son made the grief for our family intensify. A Judge does not sit on the bench to “judge” others in the courtroom without any facts. Simply shameful.

I think that Judge Gilliard is one of our very best judges. She is completely evenhanded in criminal cases and will grant defense motions that should be granted. She also is unfailingly courteous to lawyers and litigants.

This judge is smart. Many defense lawyers challenge her for bias. She is a former prosecutor, and has a bent toward their way of thinking. However, my personal experience with her has been that she will follow the law - and she knows the law. If it is a discretionary matter, she will rule for the prosecution. Nevertheless, she is smarter than most. She rewards preparedness, and will take the prosecution to task if they haven't done their homework. Since everything is relative, I would rather have her for a judge than many others. I also feel that she has the potential to develop someting rare and only seen in wise judges: the ability to show mercy. I hope that she doesn't prove me wrong.
