Comments:
Judge Marshall Hockett is awful. He tried to deny me my right to legal counsel in a criminal matter, dealing with my alleged failure to complete community service on time. The Public Defender had to argue long and hard that I was entitled to legal counsel.

Hockett is unfair to self-represented litigants, in civil cases; he ignores the law when it pleases him to do so. Hockett is not honorable, but gives North County San Diego judges a bad name.

When I petitioned him to recuse himself, in a civil case, after timely serving him, Hockett wrote out a prejudicial order, ruling against my husband and me, for the newly assigned judge to sign, which was an exact duplicate of the order Hockett wrote, himself, when he was ALREADY DISQUALIFIED. We found this out much later, when we received the entire record of our case upon appeal.

I am surprised there are not any other reviews, here, detailing Judge Hockett's uneven-handedness, lack of ethics and poor judicial temperament.
We sure hope Hockett retires soon. If you are unfortunate enough to be assigned Judge Hockett, immediately petition for a different judge. In our eyes, he's a disgrace and does a disservice to his office and to those who appear before him.
