Civil Litigation - Govt.

Comment #: CA12165
Just before retiring he apparently decided to clear his calendar by arbitrarily granting MSJs. One by one those last rulings are being reversed with unprecedented criticism by the court of appeals. Good riddance.

I once had the highest respect for Judge Goldsmith but now, 10 years later, he has become incredibly arrogant and careless. He is highly respectful of big-firm lawyers who make $500 an hour but appears to distrust and/or dislike low-income and pro per defendants.

His unjustified denial of a motion to set aside a default in 2015 is one of the most erroneous and harmful acts I have seen in 15 years. Greatly disappointed that this can happen in San Francisco Superior Court. I'm glad he is now out of the law & motion department, and I hope that his retirement is imminent.

notice the desperate padding of this judge's review by the same obviously successful attorney to try to keep the judge's reviews out of the basement.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: CA8344
He is condescending and rude to plaintiffs' lawyers and even worse to in pro per. Thinks all litigants are stupid.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA5593
Judge Goldsmith is very hard working and conscientious. I tried a three week trial and while I feel he was a little harsh in the way I was treated in sidebars, overall I have the utmost in respect and actually look back on the trial as a great experience. He is a very good judge.

This judge is hardworking and open to argument. As a law and motion judge, he is not afraid to listen, or to reconsider and reverse if appropriate. He wants to get it right, and is not afraid to concede that he may have been wrong.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA4478
Judge Goldsmith is a very hardworking judge who presided over a three-week trial that involved an endless stream of legal issues requiring rulings. I didn't envy his position, and I respect the effort he put into the case. Though we butted heads, I have the utmost respect for him.
