Civil Litigation - Private

One of the worst judges to be stuck with. If any other judge is disqualified Judge Bergeron is the punishment assignment.

Judge Bergeron is notorious for making bad court-trial decisions. He was elected to the bench by virtual default and has somehow managed to remain until retirement. He is discourteous to litigants and attorneys alike. In this respect, only, is he even-handed with those who appear in front of him. He has an unfortunate tendency to favor local attorneys but is routinely insulting to all. Try not to be bullied by this judge in settlement. He will "back off" if you take a firm stand. Best to avoid him even if you have to burn a CCP 170.6.

Nine years ago, when Judge Bergeron was new to the bench, I filed a MSJ/MSA. To prepare for the hearing, I asked Judge Bergeron's former colleagues about him and each (of three lawyers) used the word "lazy." At the MSJ/MSA hearing, the judge asked if I expected him to read the motion and all supporting documents (almost a 10" thick stack of material). He denied the MSJ/MSA.
