Sadly, the best judge this County ever saw just retired!
He will be missed as one of the few that knew what he was doing, worked incredibly hard and was fair to everyone.

I wish this judge would be "cloned". I've tried criminal and civil cases before him, bench trials and jury trials. Hardest working judge in the County. Probably works 80 hour weeks. Second day of a high profile sex case, the judge hands me and the prosecutor a full set of completed jury instructions. Like an umpire with a good strike zone, consistent and fair. I've won and lost, but my clients and I always feel like we've gotten a fair trial.

Judge Hall has run the gambit of different judicial positions at his Courthouse. He and the numerous varied mix of judges at 400 County Center have seen not only San Mateo's demographic's change; but have experienced Sacramento pass legislature affecting the Court's administration, and the court room's administration.

Some Judges, or staff, all of whom, which Judge Hall officially oversees, may find it difficult to keep up or adapt to these legislative changes enacted either before or after they took their positions.

As Presiding Judge, Judge Hall, has the thankless task of overseeing a varied mix of personalities and individuals with fixed opinions of either how the Courthouse should be run or how justice should be administered with their acceptance that the 21st century arrived nearly ten years ago.

One may imagine any man or woman in his position would just prefer Plato's idea of the best form of government.
