Criminal Defense Lawyer

One of the worst examples of a kangaroo court Iv ever seen. This judge is more than a rubber stamp for CPS in dependency matters. This little fiefdom she runs is abhorrent to the principals of fairness. More lives are ruined in this court room than anywhere else, whatever cps wants they get. It’s scary how the system can and does run over families every day without anyone knowing because of the privacy implications. Best example yet for the need for a jury trial as the only check on government power.

According to a recent ruling by Judge Cody (libel suit of Westlake High School coach Bloom vs. Mr Clark, approx June 9, 2015) she decided that widely distributed emails from Mr. Clark, where he claimed that coach Bloom was "a fraud, a cheat, a tax evader, a crook, a tax cheat and a child abuser" was protected free speech to say so and he does not need to prove any of the allegations if his purpose was to show that Bloom was unfit for his job as a coach.

Therefore, I could make the same allegations about Judge Cody if my purpose was to show that she is unfit for her job as a Ventura County Superior Court Judge. (And I do think she is unfit for the job!)

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: CA6345
Tari Cody lacks basic legal reasoning skills and consistently favors plaintiffs. She'll literally suggest (inept) arguments for plaintiffs in response to dispositive motions and do their research for them by citing cases or making arguments found nowhere in the plaintiffs' briefing, often reaching an objectively wrong result. In her defense, the 2DCA appellate panel covering Ventura is agressively pro-plaintiff and likewise inept, particularly Presiding Judge Aurthor Gilbert. Plan to go trial and don't except any help on appeal if you represent a civil defendant. Thankfully the jury pool is more sensible than the jurists in the Ventura area.

I am sure that this may be taken as having been written by a disgruntled litigant. However, I enjoy living with the assumption that I have some basis for a general judgment of the character of others, and if this is true, I do not approve of the Honorable Tari Cody's temperament toward litigants in cases, nor of her lack of ability to make both lighting-fast and long-enduring decisions on a consistent basis. (At least in the cases that I have litigated before her.)
