Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: FL2883
Rating:5.1
Comments:
Unfortunately this judge is so hung up on procedural details, his court is essentially ineffective. He cannot move his cases, his rigidity makes him completely ineffective, and his demeanor is objectionable to most lawyers simply trying to get their jobs done.

Comments:
This judge is impressed with himself and has a superiority complex about him. He is a robot who you cannot have a conversation with. He is maniacal about everything, from scheduling to exact proper grammar and punctuation in proposed agreed orders. He will send them back unsigned if you misplace your comma. Rejects plea agreements like it is a bodily function. Forget about getting a client a reasonable bond. Good trial judge, but will absolutely kill your client if you lose.

As a professional researcher and writer, I have spent a lot of time in courtrooms and I must say that I have never witnessed a more [redacted by Ed.] judge who relies on the state attorneys to direct him and coach him regarding cases. He obviously does not know the law and should remain partial to the defendants, but he does not. [redacted] There is no justice in his courtroom. I personally feel that he should be removed from the bench.

A horrible judge. A vindictive nasty human being.

This judge is a credit to the bench although he is much maligned by various members of the bar. It seems to me that those persons who are critical of him are the same lawyers who are always unprepared and somewhat less than knowledgeable in their chosen field. He conducts a very fair trial and 99.9% of the time he is right on procedural and substantive questions. The only criticism of Judge Schack is that he is somewhat obsessive-compulsive and sometimes is too procedurally oriented. By the time that everything is procedurally in place, many times the damage has already occurred. A little more concentration on substance over procedure might be an improvement. Also, Judge Shack is somewhat robotic. Although I know that there is a human being under that robe, he could tend to show it a little more. Overall, you cannot ask for a more fair or knowledgeable guy. But, before going in that courtroom, you had better have your ducks in a row. Practicing in his courtroom made me a better lawyer.
