She is retired now but I agree with all of your comments. I do believe she is very smart but was so protected by her superiors that she had no type of motivation to do "a good job" Additionally, no one ever confronted her about any of her inappropriate behavior and then all the attorneys come before her and act like her behaviour is acceptable. There is a chief judge for a reason and if enough complaints would have come in she would not have lasted this long and gotten away with so much.

I don't even know where to begin. Long and disorganized motion calendars, strange baseless rulings, favoritism, rambling discourses.... (She has actually improved somewhat in the last couple of years, but not by much.)

Having tried several cases in front of her, I have been impressed with her quick grasp of the legal issues and her ability to make a decision and move the case along. Yes, she is always late; yes, she has personal issues. But she is smart and she does work hard to make sure she makes the legally correct rulings.

This judge is very self-involved with personal affairs and is never on time. She doesn't pay attention to what is happening in trial, and occasionally takes stands on issues over which the lawyers have not really disagreed. She should be replaced with a harder-working judge.

I agree with the criminal defense lawyer. She has brains but rarely uses them because court interferes with her personal priorities. Special set hearings and trials are constantly interrupted by personal phone calls, errands and everything other than the case. Punctuality is also a major problem. Plan on any motion taking at least a half an hour to an hour longer than scheduled while you wait for her.

Judge Esquiroz is an embarrassment to the Miami-Dade County bench, and it's a shame, because it's not for lack of intelligence. She is simply lazy and completely uninterested, but feels insulated by her gender and ethnicity from any serious electoral challenge. She can often be seen during hearings and trials (even when she is the fact-finder) reading her mail, talking on her cell phone, or engaged in other personal matters. She is one of the two or three worst judges on the Miami-Dade County bench.
