Could not agree more with the low rater. Judge Friedman is rude, inflexible and unreasonable.

So true that no matter how legitimate the reason, Judge Friedman never grants reasonable requests. So true that he thinks his recalcitrance will strong arm a settlement.

Yes he does have the ridiculous timer.

Fortunately, he retired and can do no more harm to people appearing before him.

I agree he can be "prickly" when he is mad about something in a case and short-tempered. I think he can be very stubborn and that causes him to stop listening, but I actually had him apologize to me during a trial when I had been trying for eight months to explain why he should sever my client in a civil case - at the charge conference, he finally "got it" and I knew that if I lost, he was going to grant me a new trial. He told me he was wrong not to grant my motion to sever and he was sorry. Jury saw things my way so it was unnecessary, but I felt comfortable knowing I'd get a new trial if it turned out otherwise. Only time I ever had a judge apologize to me for an erroneous ruling that could have been devastating for my client.

I don't know what the other raters are talking about. Judge Friedman, while very smart, is rude, inflexible, and unreasonable. No matter how legitimate the reason, he almost never grants even the most reasonable requests from lawyers if he thinks his recalcitrance will strong arm a settlement. "Lessons on how to move the docket..."? Sure. If that means putting an eggtimer on your desk and telling counsel they have until the sand runs out to finish arguing (I'm not making this up! He does it!). Freidman is a smart man, but he's been on the bench too long, is burned out, and it shows.

Consistently good. Other judges should take lessons from him on how to move a docket. Willing to try cases and everyone knows it, so most cases settle. Fair and although he's been on the bench a long time, obviously still enjoys it.

A very fair, even handed trial judge. Can be prickly if you don't follow his rules, but he is very fair. Will give everyone a very fair trial.
