What others have said about Hon. Wilfredo Martinez

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: FL4553
Judge Martinez demands professionalism of counsel and treats the bar courteously. He applies himself in every case I've appeared before him.

Comment #: FL4017
Judge lacks any common sense when it comes to evidence and Florida Statutes. It is a shame that bad judges keep misconstruing and setting bad precedent due to their ineptness. Judge Martinez takes the gospel of local counsel and throws the rest out the window.

Comment #: FL3806
Judge Martinez is a prosecutor from the bench. I made a favorable plea agreement with the state only to have Judge Martinez decline the plea because he did not feel it was harsh enough. While he was certainly in his legal right to do so, Judge Martinez obviously believes he knows better than the state and is quick to legislate from the bench when he sees fit or appropriate. Judge Martinez should step down and work for the State Attorney's office where he belongs.

Comment #: FL3339
This judge is not a fair ruler. He rules based on who he likes or dislikes. He doesn't rule based on evidence or the laws. I guess that he is used to not being supervised, and does what he pleases. He is habitually late and unprepared for cases, and is always looking at the clock to see how long it will take and not paying attention to case details. HE profiles you on what you look like and who you are. He doesn't look at the realities of the case. He might have a lot of education or training, but that doesn't make him smart. You made us not trust your court system. You ruled us guilty when we truly are innocent. You penalized us because you didn't like the way we sound, look, or sit. You had a bad day and you passed it on to us. That is not fair. There is no justice in your courtroom.

Comment #: FL3220
All of the comments about his rudeness are correct. If he doesn't like what you did, you have no shot at defending yourself, and he will want to sanction you even if there is no basis. (This is when what you did had a basis in law and fact.) He will try to find whatever he can to try to cream you, simply because he doesn't like what you did -- even if it is irrelevant to the matter at hand. Someone needs to run against him in the next election cycle. He does not deserve to be on the bench.

Comment #: FL3152
Judge Martinez is quick to reach an opinion without giving both sides an opportunity to present evidence. He rides roughshod over litigants and is insulting.

Comment #: FL2642
This judge is very rude and unfair; to the point where an individual's civil and constitutional rights are stripped. This is America, not syria, where rights can be taken away at one's discretion. He goes against what is fair, and what he says. It truly is amazing that someone who is supposed to uphold the law to the highest standard is so discretionally unfair and biased. He needs to be replaced as soon as possible or else our constitution is nothing more than a piece of paper.

Comment #: FL2443
The most rude judge I have ever encountered in all my years of practice. Totally unprofessional. Ruled one way as far as my client was concerned and the exact opposite with the other side on the same issue.

Comment #: FL1935
Fails to apply correct statutes. Allows opposing counsel to schedule hearings and file proposed orders without contacting or copying me.

Comment #: FL1471
Compassionate and intellectually honest. Respectful in court and actively encourages professionalism in the counsel who appear before him. Strives to improve the efficiency of the court system.

A second prosecutor. Abusive, unfair, and rude.
