I am a 30 year criminal defense lawyer. This Judge quite frankly is one of the best I have ever seen. He is very intelligent; very prepared; very professional and always kind to everyone in his courtroom. I love my profession and it makes me sad to see other supposed attorneys write untruthful reviews about this Judge solely because they are unhappy with a decision he has made. It is a tough job that requires difficult decisions. I don’t particularly agree with some of the decisions the Judge makes, but he is without question fair and he is consistent and true to his beliefs and the law. Period. You cannot ask for anything more than that. He is a blessing to my profession! And when I am in his courtroom, I am proud of my profession.

Judge Colaw is mean-spirited, cruel, and extremely biased against criminal defendants. Punishment-oriented and uncompassionate prosecutors love him, of course, because he basically does their job for him. He forces people to make quick decisions and punishes people for not bowing down to the State Attorney's Office and succumbing to their demands. He takes pleasure in harsh sentencing, often detailing every aspect of a sentence, such as costs, etc., before dealing the blow of a long time in prison or jail. His presence on the criminal bench highlights everything that is wrong with our criminal justice system and promotes everything that is wrong with State Attorney Brian Kramer and his employees. The world will be a better place when he is taken off the criminal bench. But, of course, that will never happen in a judiciary composed of prosecutors.

Simply stated Judge Colaw consistently demonstrates the proper judicial temperament one expects in a Circuit Court judge. He is intelligent, ethical, and always prepared to discuss and listen to all sides of a debatable proposition. He is collegial and clearly respects the institution he serves.

Judge Cola was made aware by Respondent 3 separate times during hearing about 12 false statements made by Petitioner in her petition. He showed little interest, and never heard all 12 false statements. He ended up granting her more than her petition asked for.
