The worst judge I have ever met. Made me set a 5 minute special set for a nominal discovery dispute that could have been argued in 2 minutes. Had to set it more than three months ahead - which infuriated my client and delayed the case for no good reason. 9 weeks before the special set, neither I nor opposing counsel were available for the special set due to a trial in another case. We jointly sent correspondence requesting to re-set the 5 min - even further out and he made us come in on a closed motion calendar to argue why we should have it re-set. He was aware that I am in Miami and opposing counsel lives in South Broward. His first question during the 'hearing to cancel a hearing', "Counselors, all morning I've been wanting to ask you why your time is so much more important than mine? You are asking me to change my entire life around to accomodate you. Why are you so important???" Wasted 15 minutes of my life forcing us both to explain how neither I nor opposing counsel could keep that date. Then, he reserved ruling on whether we could re-schedule for two weeks m. Worse, he berated us for our reasonable request in front of a full room of attorneys. Never hope to meet him in court or anywhere else the, for that matter. Truly drunk with power in a way that discredits any other good qualities he has as a judge.

Never seen a judge like this. Totally impatient, demeaning, unwilling to hear objections at trial, mocked lawyers before the jury, and cursed at attorneys during side bars.

I love this judge. He is terrific in trial, and delivers thoughtful, well-reasoned rulings -- the whole package. No complaints at all, and I wish there were more like him.

Comment #: FL3133
Can you say corrupt? Please get him out of there!

Unfortunately, he is rude. Talks down to everyone. Does not like out-of-county attorneys. Not someone who should be in such a powerful role.

This is a judge who either has a lot of personal problems or is in it for the wrong reasons. He is rude, abrasive, sarcastic, nasty, and downright inappropriate to lawyers and litigants. He seems to have a real distaste for being a judge, other than the power trip and threats. He loses his temper without reason (or warning) and always seems to be looking for a reason to come down hard on someone. He does not belong on the bench.

This man needs help.

The absolute worst demeanor that any trial judge could possess. Absolutely rude to everybody. He will clear out a full UMC docket in 12 minutes. Will not listen to any arguments. Cuts you off. I actually saw him leave the bench in the middle of the hearing and told everyone to reschedule, just because the lawyer would not concede (respectfully) to McCarthy's view of the case law. Complete jerk.

Probably the worst temperament of any sitting trial judge in the southern part of the state. Judge McCarthy is intolerant, harsh and condescending. But he puts up a front in front of juries and jokes around with them and acts completely different when he is "on stage" -- even with self deprecating humor. But he goes off on lawyers, mostly inappropriately, and is dogmatic and difficult as a jurist. He thinks he knows more of the law than he does, so he is not open to logical arguments or even case law when h thinks he knows the answer.

Be prepared, don't be an ass and you'll be fine with Judge McCarthy. He's got a very good "BS Meter".
