Civil Litigation - Govt.

Comment #: IL2282
Rating:9.8
Comments:
Judge Schoop was a wonderful addition to the Child Protection Division. He obviously had years of civil law practice under his belt, which made him as knowledgeable in the law as he was practical in its application. I realize that some people didn't agree with his personality -- he could be frank and often ruffled feathers of P.D.'s and State's Attorneys who are accustomed to being as inefficient as possible because it was better for their personal schedules. But the bar attorneys, witnesses and litigants appreciated his candor, ability to move cases and his willingness to listen -- even if you didn't always like what he had to say AFTER he listened and started ruling. He ran a tight trial and got people to focus on the relevant stuff. He was fair to parents and always made certain that people understood the factual and legal bases for his rulings. The most amazing thing about him that set him apart from his colleagues -- he actually wrote opinions, especially in termination trials. I hope he returns to the bench and, more importantly, to Child Protection. Schoop was on par with Marilyn Johnson, Candace Fabri, Mary Mikva and Mary Ann Mason, in his ability to apply the law and manage a courtroom. Juvenile Justice needs more highly competent judges like Judge Schoop

Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:10.0
Comments:
I appeared before him in Traffic Court and Child Protection. No nonsense but works with the lawyers and their clients. Gives you a fair trial and calls them like he sees them. But don't play games with this guy. He will call you out on nonsense in a hot second.
