Comments:
She was very short tempered and did not want to hear any details and told everyone to just hurry up and settle. She seemed to be very familiar with the other attorney and he could do no wrong, she shot down my attorney and everything he said and wouldn't even consider another side to the story. It was a horrible experience and did not feel like justice in any sense of the word. She determined there was no malice on the part of my ex-landlord just because his attorney told her that there was none, not because she looked at any facts. Justice like this just allows people like my landlord to continue screwing over people because they know going to court is no threat.

Judge Pethers is intelligent, but allows her emotions to rule the courtroom. People here have commented that she does what's "right". Well right may not accord with the law. And she is erratic. One day she will tell the plaintiff that she doesn't have a case and the next she is helping the plaintiff or whoever the poor, downtrodden party may be. This is especially annoying. If you are on the defense, be prepared to have two opposing counsels one of which is the judge. Not evenhanded at all at trial and makes your client think the judge is biased which is not helpful. Take a substitution.

Comments:
I found Judge Pethers to be well spoken, fair and above all compassionate. If you don't know the law, or haven't prepared for trial you're in trouble. She understands both plaintiff's and defendants, and leans towards those most prepared. Don't get sloppy around this judge, you'll pay. She does seem to be predisposed towards lending a fair hearing to those defendants who are traditionally disadvantaged, but only those who are no blatantly ignoring the law and their responsibilities.

She ruled in my favor, but not because of any basis in law. She is erratic, and her mood will affect her decision. With her, credibility is everything. The law takes a backseat. She is intelligent. She will catch you if you try to pull deceitful, lawyer tricks. And she will make you pay for it.

In my opinion, if you do not like this judge, it can only mean that you tried to fool her and she saw right through it. This judge is extremely intelligent. She has a tremendous amount of common sense and can quickly sense when somebody is trying to be deceitful. I have a lot of courtroom experience at both the state and the federal level, and this judge is a credit to all state court judges. This is a judge that is able to focus on and follow the law and not get caught up, swayed or influenced by irrelevant matter. I found this judge to be meticulous as well as paying close attention to the fine details. She says what's on her mind and asks questions if she wants to know something. You always know where she's coming from because she lets you know. Lastly, I found this judge to be a very caring and compassionate human being with concern for following the law and doing what is right as opposed to doing what may be easy or convenient. In my case, she gave up several of her lunchtimes so that the case could proceed. This is a rare judge and it is too bad that there are not more like her.

Judge Pethers's decisions appear to be erratic and based on her moods more than anything else. As she's very moody, it's a tough combination. She seems to have very little understanding of substantive law.
