I witnessed her presiding over landlord-tenant docket and in giving the court rules announced that she only wanted to hear if the tenant owed the rent or not. She would hear no other information. When there was disagreement about the amount she instructed the tenants and the landlord's lawyers to go into the hallway and discuss it, then return to her with the resolution. Not only is that grossly unfair to the tenants, it removes any show of proof by the attorneys, and creates no record for the circuit court to review should the tenant appeal. The last point is particularly problematic considering the high number of tenants appearing who live in subsidized housing, where an appeal would be based solely on the record. In short, it is a setup to allow landlords to collect 3 judgments to easily evict. Disgraceful. Furthermore, there were people present who didn't speak English, and she never made inquiry. She entered judgment against a tenant who had been present but needed a translator. Upon learning of her presence she instructed the translator to let her know that judgment had been entered against her.
