Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comments:
Absolutely needs to be removed from the bench. She is the most miserable old wretch I’ve ever dealt with in a courtroom. She doesn’t care what positive mitigating factors you present, lack of criminal record, remorse, presence of a substance use disorder, etc. This judge could care less about any of it. The only two phrases she knows how to say are, “hold without bond”, and “I’m imposing the maximum.” The rampant incompetence , knowing disregard for the case facts, deliberate rudeness and bad attitude, ignorance and overall inability to do the job. These judges destroy people's lives, families, and, for ulterior reasons, torpedo important cases affecting the public.

My fiancé unfortunately found herself in front of Judge Hazlett. She is a mother to a beautiful daughter. She unfortunately suffers from addiction. It took Harford County 11.5 months to finally charge on simple possession. Between the time she got the charge and going to court she successfully completed treatment counseling had a job and was back on track to be successful. She doesn't have a record she has mental health issues she's not a criminal. Hazlett without any consideration to the changes my girlfriend made in her life revoked her R.O.R and threw her in jail for 45 days. my fiance has never been arrested or in trouble before. I understand people need to be punished. Im not saying my fiancé isn't wrong. Hazlett gave suggestions on my fiancés medication and stated off of nothing but opinions what medication my girlfriend should be on. What's even more sickening is she wasn't going to lock my fiancé up until she heard she takes methadone medication. She made my fiancé go through painful detox for no reason when she wasn't ready in her recovery to-do that. Something needs to be done about this judge. Shes heartless mean and unfair to the community that she swears to protect. if you don't pay for a lawyer good luck with this lady.

I have never appeared before Judge Hazlett on one of her good days, if she has them. She seems to have little familiarity with civil district court work and resents being asked to handle it. No matter how professional and prepared you are, she doesn't like you or your case or your client. If you can choose another judge for your civil trial, do it.

Judge Hazlett decided to continue postponing my sons case and continued to confine him within our penal system for a violation of probation. He has a drug addiction history. My son had a intake assessment arranged with a residential treatment program and she refused to accept this but rather felt it better he sit in the county jail. I find this to me a misuse of power but she feels this small amount of time in jail is going to save his life. I found her unreasonable and perhaps under educated in the science of addiction.

I went before The Honorable Judge Hazlett on 4/30/19 as a respondent to a Piece Order against me. I found the Honorable Judge to be very kind and thorough. She explained everything extremely well, and with kind facial expressions. This Honorable Judge actually made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. My over all rating of her is an absolute (10).

After what looked like a Barnum & Bailey start in a confused and poorly organized courtroom, Judge Hazlett put my daughter in jail for 3 days with no time to prepare, unlike the gentleman that was seen before her. She also ordered him to serve 3 days in jail but he was assigned his time be served over the weekend, giving him 4 days to prepare. He also had many prior run ins with the law where this was my daughters first offense and a very minor one proved by the Court dismissing it. She was informed my daughter was going to Paramedic School and working as an EMT but I guess OTHER people's education and service mean nothing to her. It also forced me to drive back and forth from CT (I would love to have Judge Hazlett pay the fuel and toll bills for the extra trip I had to make). My daughter performed over twice the community service she was originally ordered and Judge Hazlett dismissed it as if it was nothing. She paid no mind to any of the positive things the Attorney pointed out regarding my daughter. I found her to be callous and condescending and it was clear her mind was already made up before any of us stepped into that Circus Room. Judge Hazlett made a snide and disparaging remark about my daughters integrity and she couldn't be more wrong!! My daughter served proudly in the USCG and received an Honorable Discharge, just as both my wife and I have from the U.S. Navy. She now serves her community as an EMT and as I mentioned, working on becoming a Paramedic. And she is, always has been and always will be my little girl. Judge Hazlett needs to learn a lot about decorum when she's lording over people from her throne. Their families are right there watching and what I watched was anything but professional nor did it result in anything positive for anybody.

As the morning of 4/6/16 wore on and the docket thinned out, I was becoming concerned that our case would generate little more than a slap on the wrist with PBJ and restitution being ordered.
What I witnessed, I believe was the result of the defendant's cavalier attitude and the egregious nature of the crime. Our case revolved around abuse and theft from a dear friend that we care for who is in an assisted living scenario and an aide had been stealing from her and then blaming the patient who had Alzheimer's and Dementia for having lost the items.

Honorable Susan Hazlett has done much to restore my faith in our system with her swift and decisive action against the defendant.

Judge Hazlett mis applies and mis interprets the Laws of the State. She ignores Civil Rights for children and parents.
