Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: NJ2494
Rating:1.0
Comments:
Notoriously late to the bench. Disrespectful to counsel, especially defense counsel. Biased against minority defendants. Painfully insecure, which is masked by a bully attitude. Completely inappropriate for the criminal bench.

Terrible judge! Not nice to jurors and always late! Wishy washy on her decisions and does not know the law.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ2091
Rating:1.0
Comments:
Mercer county litigants should be thrilled that this judge is no longer sitting in civil division. She was so biased towards the defense. if a plaintiffs attorney would mess up, there would be hell to pay. a defense attorney- not a problem!

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ2088
Rating:1.4
Comments:
She was terrible in Ocean County and so they moved her to Mercer County. She shows up an hour to two hours late on a regular basis. It takes her forever to decide simple motions. Her work is reassigned to other judges. She has an obvious pro defense bias. She does not follow the law. She should never have been appointed as a judge let alone been given tenure.

Comments:
I do not get to Mercer County very often. However, a few weeks ago I had a matter assigned to Judge Pereksta for trial. As per Her Honor's request, I forwarded to her the Friday before the trial date the papers I had submitted in support of several in limine motions I had filed as part of my pre-trial submissions. When we appeared before her on Monday afternoon at 1:30 to start trial, I was very impressed by how much time she had spent not only reading my motions but also learning about the case.

Ultimately, she spent 3.5 hours with the plaintiff's attorney and I and worked out a settlement in a case that would have been very, very hard for the plaintiff to prove at trial (especially in view of Her Honor's preliminary rulings on my in limine motions). She worked hard with us to get what I think was the proper/correct result in the matter.

I had never been before Judge Pereksta for any reason and I was impressed by her fairness, the evenhanded nature of her rulings and her familiarity with the issues in our case.
