What others have said about Hon. Phillip Lewis Paley

Comment #: NJ2764
Very rude to non-attorney litigants
Very pompous
Doesn't listen or care about facts-Is more impressed with big law firms than deciding the case based on the actual facts.
Claims to know about everything, even religion, but observes nothing
Keep it short! He doesn't read long briefs or affidavits

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ2390
Doesn't care about the facts! Very moody! Cares more about disposing of as many cases as he can, and not rendering proper judgement. Definitely favors defendants and big corporations

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ2379

Comment #: NJ2215
Made decision for summary judgement in wrongful termination case without knowing all of the facts. It is clear from the facts he recites in his decision that he didn't read the details of plaintiff's brief, and didn't know all of the facts. He appeared more interested in disposing of case than giving plaintiff his day in court

Has poor understanding of law against discrimination. Permitted summary judgement for defendants using inapplicable law. He either doesn't understand nj lad or is in the pocket of defendants

Civil Litigation - Private

Judge Paley does not believe in the jury system. I have seen him treat jurors in a rude manner. He routinely ignores their decisions.

He is very competent as a trial judge and very moody. it's best to fly under radar and adapt to his rhythm in a trial and you will do just fine. He loves classic rock and is hard of hearing.

Very affable in disposition and temperament. Gives the parties a fair opportunity to present their cases. However, the scheduling delays are extraordinary and completely ridiculous. It took more than a year to get a motion heard. The same thing happened to a colleague of mine. If he can get his calendar straightened out and move the cases along, I would rate him with an overall 7 or 8 of 10. Until then, he is about a 3 or 4.
