I appeared before Judge Acquaviva -- my first appearance as a civil attorney in New Jersey. He was incredibly rude and condescending toward me. Not someone I would want or envision on the bench.

He is condescending and bias toward women. Refuses to acknowledge abusers past offenses or any evidence that is presented. He's an enabler for abusive behavior and is not fair on ensuring both parents are held accountable. His way or the highway regardless of the scenario presented. Father does not pay child support, and made me have to eat all travel costs because father refuses to get one. He could care less about the best interest of the child.

Pleasant temperment and seems to do his research on areas that interest him. Not interested in seeing the open conflict of a person claiming they do not interfere in parenting time, YET that same person constantly opposes any motion for parenting time. Lets items languish in the system; wasted three trial days trying to push a settlement with another judge, meaning if person did not settle, trial would be scheduled another 3-6 months out. Lititgation lasted three years. Could never see though the delays presented by the other side.

shame I must appeal him . does not know basic arithmetic. arbitrarily , because he cant add cut off my alimony term by 1/3 of a month. Further , is disrupting my schedule so that the father can see his child . Rather than making the father get a new job if he wants to be in his kids life . Now I must drive an extra hour once a week , just because of this judge . Did not even consider the inconvenience this would be for me. Rather , pro father , only concerned that Dad gets to see his son. Did not even ask him if he tried to get a new job.

The mother of my child violated his own court order over 10 times and he did NOTHING at all.

He's 100% unqualified to be even an errand boy much less a judge.

Get a new one immediately if they assign you him.

I just sued this useless judge for 50 million dollars for violating my and my daughter's CIVIL RIGHTS. He is a coward, has no clear plan to do anything proper, rules outside the law, and I believe he is in the Bondage, Discipline, Sado-Masochism (BDSM) community or a client. Never sanctioned mother for 20 plus violations of HIS order or custody agreement.

He is kind, but very pro "mom" ignores evidence when it doesn't fit his narrative. He ignores Court rules and will flip flop on his own decisions, vacating his own orders. He will fill in law for mom but requires dad to always site cases. He only enforces orders against Dad. Mom was held in contempt 3 times without any meaningful consequence.

My custody case is ongoing and complex. He's the first Judge in Monmouth who actually paid attention, actually read the briefs, actually saw the insanity of my ex, and actually did the right thing in getting my daughter back.

How long before they bring him back. Monmouth county is a joke. They only moved him out to bring in yet another biased uneducated judge. Weiss worked in immigration law. Aquaviva should have sent everyone decisions in the mail instead of wasting their time going he walks in knowing what he is going to do with each case. He bashed a dad for having a prior record that was a decade old. The dad raised that kid alone and he just let the absentee mother back in not seeing her kid in years and having recent addiction issues. The judge believed her word and said he didn't need to test her. Way to go throwing a small child in the hands of an addict that dyfs worked so hard to help.

One of the worst judges I've ever seen. He treats people like trash, he does not care about the best interest of the child or even listen to facts at all. He is not biased to mom or dad he picks a side and sticks with that one whether they be bad or good. Funny how he wouldn't accept proof of info another judge had no problem taking proof of. Also funny how facts are on paper in his face but he takes a dislike to one party for whatever his personal reason and throws a kid to the wolves. Absolutely appalling and unacceptable. Seems to dislike his job, he claims they don't do supervised visits in Monmouth county, news to me! He also doesn't drug test parents he said. So I guess a piece of paper and their word is enough even though they have years of addiction behind them. Just give them a child, give them rights when they haven't been a parent for the entire child's life with no solid proof. I'm sure he would give his kids to drug addicts cause they say they are clean.

Don't agree with the negative comments here. I've been in front of judge Acquaviva on two separate occasions and I didn't feel any bias towards mom or dad. He rules based on the facts at hand and what's in the best interest of the child. Very good bedside manner and can see through the BS.

Seriously, maybe this is due to all of your comments. Judge Chiet was the same way but back then there wasn't internet with all of these comments for people to put a judge down. I watched him give an addict mother her kid back after years of not having him. The father was treated like trash and he was the one raising the kid. Could that be due to these kinds of comments??? These peoples lives were turned upside down only for this kid to be hurt. That's who matters not the parents

Very unprofessional, made rude and degrading comments to females in general. Created a complex family court issue in a joking manner.Very bias negatively in regard to women. Seems to not be very knowledgable in area of custody and family law. I was simply a bystander and saw him speak in a very degrading manner to a mother of small children without any reason to be so rude and disrespectful.

My name is Theresa, I want to go on record in defense of Judge Acquaviva. I read some unkind comments and to be completely honest in my family court case I found Judge Acquaviva to be fair and extremely thorough in his court room. If you enter his court room and do not have facts to back up your statements, as with any Judge they will rule as fairly as they can. I was pro se; not only was Your Honor just and fair, but his entire law clerks office was extremely kind and never once harsh. I have never written a review, but when faced with an open court matter like I was in I did research and was petrified after reading what I did on this site about Jude Acquaviva. These “opinions” are simply untrue and I urge anyone who is lucky enough to have Judge Acquaviva’s skilled eyes overlooking your case to just be honest. It is truly sad someone who’s outcome was not what “they” wanted could have the right to say untrue things. I did not get everything I requested, but Judge Acquaviva has nothing to do with that. The law is the law. I thank you your Honor for all the courtesy you extended my case. I respect your ruling and incredible ability to lead without any favoritism as the prior comments would lead someone to believe. I don't understand the negative comments here saying Judge is biased against women. He goes by the letter of the law, and is very laser focused on the issue. He can see thru the BS. If he's your Judge, make sure you have your proof on paper, talk is just hearsay. He literally saved my life with his verdict, and I am very grateful to him. Another biased Judge who is pro men. If you are a woman, dont expect to get a chance to speak more than 20 seconds. The men get to speak as long as needed. In child custody cases, Acquaviva refers to women as ‘ma’am’ but refers to the men as “dad”! I wanted to correct him and say “I’m MOM”... Acquaviva is another Gov Christie appointee after Christie had vetting for judges dropped. I pray for all of the women who walk into his courtroom!!!

This Judge is a brand new Family Court Judge with NO family law background. He has no concept of the laws and his response when challenged by an attorney is "APPEAL ME". Its insane that a judge with no experience has the power to make these decisions with no recourse!!
