Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ1342
Rating:9.9
Comments:
Pragmatic, knowledgable, fair and unbiased, Judge Harris is great. His opinions are thorough, well-reasoned and issued quickly. He comes prepared and is involved at oral argument. He asks intelligent questions and, unlike many others on the bench, he understands extremely complex matters. A true asset to the judiciary.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ661
Rating:5.5
Comments:
A smart guy but his slavish devotion to finding some procedural ground or other issue that no one has raised, simply to show how bright he is, results in some unfair outcomes.

Comments:
Judge Harris is the brightest star in Bergen County. He is intelligent, gentile, congenial, and allows the lawyer to try his/her case. There are maybe 3 other judges in Bergen as good as he.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ206
Rating:4.0
Comments:
Judge Harris granted defendant's motion for summary judgment as to all of the actual claims in a case, but found an issue of material fact as to a claim he himself identified which was not pled in plaintiff's complaint, nor was it addressed by either party in the moving papers, nor was it explored by the judge and/or the parties at oral argument of the motion. He thus dismissed all of the actual claims in the case, leaving only this claim. He then refused to adjourn a first trial date (with no prior adjournments) to allow defendant's motion for reconsideration to be heard. In this way, he forced a settlement of an otherwise worthless case. This left me completely disillusioned as to the fairness of the New Jersey court system, which I had always had great faith in (silly me).

Rating:8.1
Comments:
He is sharp, competent and effective.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ189
Rating:7.0
Comments:
Judge Harris is a very intelligent judge who truly knows the law and can articulate it skillfully. However, he is rude to women and condescending to lawyers unless they are men from big firms. It is a shame that Judge Harris has forgotten his humanity and has no qualms about embarrassing a lawyer in from of a client or in front of other lawyers.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ32
Rating:7.6
Comments:
Issues rulings directly from the bench. Very fair and very involved in all aspects of a case, including discovery. Wants to get the litigation resolved as fast and fair as possible. Attitude is very much like a Federal Court judge.
