Civil Litigation - Private

Don't know what happened. I've had dozens of cases before him during his tenure, and considered him a brilliant judge. The last time, however, he was ride, inattentive, disregarded the facts of the case, totally ignored the statutory law, refused to enforce discovery compliance then berated us for lack of documentary proof, and even said from the bench we were wasting his time because the case only involved $500,000. Then he based his decision on legal arguments that were never even mentioned by the opposition. A shame that a once brilliant judge could go so far awry

I cannot understand why he is not on the New Jersey Supreme Court. This is the brightest judge that I have ever encountered in New Jersey.

In spite of conclusive evidence, Judge Peter Doyne still chooses to cover up for his colleague, the Presiding Judge of the Civil Part, Joseph R. Rosa Jr., who helped a swindler illegally evict a senior citizen from her home of nearly twenty years. In recent years, Judge Doyne has become more and more arrogant, as he is caught up in political gains and ignores his duty as the Bergen County Head Judge. By protecting a criminal, a judge turns himself into one, and such a person has no right to collect the taxpayers’ hard-earned money. If Judge Peter Doyne is unable to rule his subordinates, especially those that have a problem distinguishing right from wrong, then he should come down from the head position he is in now, and leave the courtroom to a more capable and justified judge (hopefully, there are still some good judges left).

The quintessential Judge. Fair, evenhanded, diligent, scholarly, courteous. His judicial vocation is a gift and a treat to lawyers and to litigants.

Judge Doyne is, first and foremost, respectful to lawyers. He has not forgotten what it was like to be a lawyer or his humanity. He is fair, even-tempered, intelligent, knowledgeable and industrious. I wish that all judges treated lawyers and therefore, their clients, in such an even-handed manner.

Judge Doyne is the most unfair, pompous judge I have ever encountered. Beware! He will sign whatever party's order is sent to him first regardless of which party was ordered to prepare it and regardless of whether it accurately reflects what he ordered. So get your orders in early and be creative! He has been known to hold grudges against certain attorneys for no apparent reason and the clients unfortunately must suffer the consequences.

Judge Doyne is the best judge I have encountered in the state system. Pragmatic, businesslike, efficient, fair, etc.
