What others have said about Hon. Joseph L. Rea

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NJ4584
He is an incompetent judge. He has had numerous strikes against him for exhibiting unprofessional behavior, but remains on the bench and remains protected.

He shoots from the hip and is a total loose cannon, and makes snap decisions without thought. Kafka would be intrigued by Judge Rea's methods.

His reputation among attorneys who have appeared before him is well-known. He has botched several cases that I am aware of, in one such case creating appellate issues that dragged a case out for years.

Comment #: NJ4517
As two-faced as they come. Don't trust him. Needs to go back and read the constitution and what the 5th amendment means. The fact he made assumptions when I pleaded the 5th to a question he asked me. Then Didn't even know the actual law he was asking me about. He is the reason to get rid of JUDICIAL IMMUNITY.

Comment #: NJ3345
He reflects a bias against survivors/plaintiffs of sexual abuse and assault. Outbursts at victims don't demonstrate good temperament or a prioritization of justice.

An absolute disgrace to the bench.

Criminal Defense Lawyer

Comment #: NJ1454
He is a horrendous judge and lacks the skills needed to be a good judge. He lacks grace and dignity, and tries to abuse his power as a judge to settle cases. His ways are weird and lack logic. Our system permits judicial appointments due to political connections more so than on merit, and that is a tragedy. Judge Rea is a product of politics and not merit.

He is very good judge. I was involved in a case where he made a 180-degree change, based on my oral argument.

Cannot agree more with the comment on 1/3/2013. It is amazing that he got tenure

Comment #: NJ1153
Not knowledgeable or familiar with our case or the law. Should not sitting in civil court and making decisions that involve substantial money damages.
