What others have said about Hon. Saliann Scarpulla

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY8170
Bright, pleasant, courteous to lawyers, but tends to shoot from the hip and look for quick solutions to complex issues

Comment #: NY7883
Rating:Not Rated
Extremely poor courtroom manners. Little common sense. I am not sure how she got her position when she lacks an intimate grasp of more complex financial litigation and structured securities .

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY7483
Very rude and yells for no reason. She gives little attention to the law. Unless she can shoot from the hip and get it right, she'll get it wrong. Really very dense and not impartial.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY7123
She can be very rude and caustic. She grossly overestimates her own knowledge of the law and demonstrates a lack of impartiality. She is definitely not a star of the bench.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY6681
Profoundly overestimates her knowledge of the law. Ordinary legal acumen at best. Sometimes temperamental and rude. Not the worst justice, but far from the best.

Comment #: NY5189
It is a delight to appear in front of Judge Scarpulla. She is bright, pleasant and has a wonderful temperament. She is an excellent assignment.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY4666
Truly a rising star. Judge Scarpulla truly cares about litigants, attorney and getting it right. Truly a pleasure to appear before. And she is very smart.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY4213
Excellent trial judge - smart, not a pushover, and not a monster - controls the action

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY4198
While she allows a real oral argument, she already knows the law and the outcome, because she thinks she knows the law. She is one of densest judges I have encountered. She demonstrated literally no understanding of proximate cause. My secretary also doesn't know anything about proximate cause but she immediately understood the case should have been dismissed just based on common sense, which Judge Scarpulla apparently has none of. She is the embodiment of the adage "a little knowledge is dangerous."

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY4183
Justice Scarpulla is an excellent judge. She reads all motion papers before arguments, is well prepared, and knowledgeable on the law. She rules swiftly, often from the bench, but does listen to arguments made by counsel in a patient manner. She is firm, but courteous towards lawyers in her courtroom.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1913
A very proactive judge. Her part is always crowded because she takes time to hear every oral argument and hear both sides out. She doesn't just cycle through her calendar but tries to identify the real issues and gets involved in settling the case. On one case, she would call both sides every 2 days to see if we had settled the case after she urged a settlement. She's a breath of fresh air.
