A useless affirmative action set aside judge, has set illegal orders to the clerks not to accept motions for part 268. Is too stupid to properly decide motions. Must suck knowing the only reason you are on the bench is because of the color of his skin

He sat through the trial. He set ground rules for both sides, citing no delays, witnesses ready, etc. It didn't work out that way. He leaned towards the ADA's side. He allowed an extended recess for the ADA to get another witness. The ADA did not return with a new witness, but re-examined the previous witness. This witness admitted that the ADA reviewed the testimony during the subsequent recess. This judge sanctioned the ADA for doing so.

Judge St. George knows what he is doing. Doesn't waste anyone's time. Likes to work. He is also totally evenhanded, not looking to protect People's case like some judges. Would practice before him any day.

He had some bizarre rule about picking the jurors. I only had one chance to pick first four or something, I didn't know what he was babbling about his rules the first time I picked with him. I tried to go back and strike one, he said "no" for no apparent reason other than be a pr&@#K Not so nice. I won the trial, so it's not sour grapes. He just rubbed me the wrong way and he's getting increasingly nasty and power drunk.

I have now tried two cases with this judge. He has been entirely fair. He is easy to work with if you are prompt and efficient. He likes to try cases. He is good on trial. He does not seem to favor the prosecution. He is very sharp but sometimes a little quick to make a decision. He doesn't allow a lot of excess in his courtroom. He will allow a little banter but not much which as it is evenly handled is fine. Does not give "signals" to jurors. Chambers (as they are) are well run. He is very conservative for a Democrat. Not giving away the store means a lot of trials. (Not necessarily a bad thing with this judge given this D.A.'s office.) Brush up on your evidence and be current on case law, because he is.

This judge has a political agenda on which his decisions are based. His declared anti-domestic violence stance apparently applies only to men and takes no account of the evidence before him.

Judge St. George is a very fine trial judge. He is smart and efficient. He doesn't suffer fools gladly but has an otherwise great demeanor. Jurors are impressed by his skills and his concern for them. St. George comes prepared to work. He has a schedule for trial and he keeps to it. Be prepared! He does not like to deal with amateurs or with people who are dabbling in criminal law. On the other hand he has tremendous patience with new lawyers. Some of his rules (20 minutes to sum up) get in the way of him being rated better. On the other hand, he quickly makes rulings, understands what you are doing before you do it, and is otherwise easy to work with if you play by the rules.
He lets you try your case, as long as it doesn't take forever for you to accomplish that. He doesn't burn you for going to trial either.
