Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY13240
Rating:2.3
Comments:
One of the two or three worst judges I have appeared before in well over 30 years of practice. Leaving aside her rude and utterly unprofessional attitude and conduct, What is most dangerous about this justice is that she regards herself unbound by the law. A tyrant who should not be tolerated. Raises the question, is there any oversight of state court justices in New York? Well, is there?

There are many excellent judges in this court, unfortunately, this is not one of them. She has the innate knowledge to be an excellent judge, but somehow that knowledge is negated by whatever demons she is fighting personally. Her temperament, objectivity and ability to be rational and even handed are horrible. She rants and rages without reason and fails to listen to her least favorite side. I pity any lawyer who has to appear before her.

Insulting. Demeaning. Rude. I pity any lawyer that as to appear before her. She is anything but unbiased in her attitude on the bench. She should be removed as totally unfair and rude to lawyers. Would not let me argue, and proceeded to lecture me. And I did not even get a CLE credit!

Simply the worst judge i have ever appeared before. In multiple appearances before her I have seen her consistently belittle and demean lawyers. No tolerance for conflicting opinions. Took more than a year to decide one motion.

Comments:
In nearly thirty years of practice as a civil litigator (including a stint as a Principal Court Attorney in NYS Supreme Court), I cannot think of another justice demonstrating a greater lack of judicial temperament, of legal scholarship, of respect for attorneys appearing before her. Far too eager to threaten and utilize sanctions for conduct (even unproven allegations) that does not even approach the requisite standard under the statute. Prone to issuing vague orders that have little relationship to the actual law of the State of New York, but even more troubling is her utter, even smug unwillingness to consider that her interpretation of the law might not be correct. Impatient and rude; goes out of her way to make attorneys' lives a living hell. Honestly, whatever it is in her life that makes her such a god-awful pill to be near, she shouldn't be taking it out on the attorneys and their clients unfortunate enough to have their cases assigned to her part. Difficult to remain deferential before such a horrific excuse for a jurist.
