Comments:
I recently served as a juror in Judge Farber's courtroom and was mightily impressed by his obvious intelligence, even temperament and the great lengths he went to to make sure the jury understood everything that was going on and the weight of our responsibility. I felt that the defendant got a very fair trial.

I was a juror in a trial on which Judge Farber presided, and I was very impressed with what I perceived to be his fairness to both sides, and his consideration for the time and patience of the jury. I did see him VERY quickly and sharply lose his temper with a defense attorney who was repeatedly trying to venture into territory the judge had apparently ruled outside the scope of allowable questions. Judge Farber explained in great detail to us how the jury should perform its duties and repeatedly admonished us to keep an open mind at all times. After the case, he spoke to the jury in private which I found very interesting. I agree he is very smart and efficient. I don't know what it's like to be a lawyer in front of him but as a juror, it was interesting, educational and heartening to see a judge who seemed to be very fair.

Gets credit for being smart and efficient and I've heard he'll give you a fair trial. But don't expect to win pretrial motions if it will substantially hurt the prosecution's case; for those purposes you can take the judge out of the DA's office but you can't take the D.A. out of the judge.

As a juror on one of Judge Farber's cases, I was extremely impressed with his professionalism, punctuality, and the respect he showed to everyone in his courtroom.

I had the misfortune of appearing before Justice Farber when he was a judge in Kings criminal court. I was a full-time criminal defense attorney for over 13 years; I appeared before judges in that court several times a week during that time. He was controlling, arrogant and the only judge in that courthouse I disliked. He dictated instructions to both the prosecution and the defense of the cases before him, and nixed any attempt on my part to actually represent my clients' interests - for example, he consistently denied any request for an investigator to perform a rudimentary investigation of a crime scene. I was banned from his part, along with a number of other competent, hard working and dedicated defense attorneys, and to this day I am proud of that fact. The reason I was banned? I had the temerity to appear in Supreme Court before covering my criminal court cases! Where do these positive reviews come from?! Did he have a personality change?

FYI - Now and for some time sitting in NY County Supreme. Crossed paths many years ago when he sat in Criminal Court in Kings and I think it charitable to say he was irritable. In hindsight, due to the nonsense of criminal court, it maybe it was to be expected. In any event, had case with him in NY County Supreme and can honestly say being in his part is a fantastic experience. First, he is on the bench working no later than 9:30, which I truly appreciate. Second, he allows you to choose between a morning call and afternoon call, which I had never seen a judge do in 18 years. Also, his court staff is amongst the nicest and most helpful I have come across. They actually provide a evaluation sheet where you can indicate any areas that you think could improve the function of the part. To top all of this off, Judge Farber did a really solid favor for my client that kept him out of jail and it was really the kind of thing he didn't have to do. I would be happy to be sent to this part any time.

This is one of the best judges to have for a criminal trial. He likes and expects for you to be prepared but he will give you a fair trial. Judge Farber is very thoughtful and knowledgeable on the law and considerate of all parties. I agree with the previous comment that he rules quickly once the issue is argued and he is extremely thorough in his rulings and pays close attention to the case. Great judge.

Bright and careful. I love a smart judge who will listen even when he thinks he knows the answer. Judge Farber gave me a very fair trial in a losing effort. He gets out of the way and lets you try your case. He is not a shill for prosecutors. He has an easy-going manner about him even when he is trying to push things along. He rules quickly once the issue has been adequately argued and he also makes good use of technology. He is considerate of counsel and while he doesn't dawdle, he was a trial attorney and is mindful of the needs of those of us who are running a practice while trying a case. He is an excellent judge...too bad I have to appeal.
