Comments:
In nearly 30 years of practice, I can think of only one other judge who went to the lengths to NOT do work like Gavrin when it comes to motion practice. She's not attorney friendly, she's not practice friendly. My advice would be look for reasons to get out of the part or hope you're on a fat hourly for the time she'll inevitably waste as she looks to avoid working. In terms of the other posts I can only wonder if I got the doppleganger or they did.

Had a difficult MVA case in front of her and she gave my client a fair trial. Would gladly try another case in front of her. Worked hard a getting it resolved.

Comments:
Judge Gavrin is a hard working judge who does everything possible to get it right. She cares about the lawyers and the jurors. She expects the lawyers to be prepared and know the law, what is wrong with that? Looking forward to my next experience before Judge Gavrin.

She is knowledgable but cannot sit still during a trial and must ask her own questions and intercede in the trial,

Justice Gavrin is one of the top judges in Queens Supreme Court, Civil Division. She is fair, exceptionally knowledgeable in all areas of civil litigation and is a first rate criminal judge as well.

Comments:
I saw this judge completely disrespect Queens County Punjabi Sikhs three times (2013, 2014, 2016), punting, refusing to hear their cases, even excluding them from the courtroom, although 3 court officers were present. Absolute bias, shocking in a jurist. It is supposed to be a random assignment system, yet this judge and a few others are notorious for cherrypicking cases. In at least one instance, there may (circumstantial proof only) have been ex parte contacts on at least one occasion with a notorious Queens troublemaking lawyer, who brags about his "friends" on the bench to lawyers and his clients. I wish I could conclude with a positve comment, but I saw nothing wothy of the Sikh community 3x.

She demonstrated a solid understanding of the law and knew how to approach the trial, plus she has great shoes

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY7687
Rating:1.1
Comments:
The worst judge I've encountered. She constantly showed up very late without notice, kept witnesses waiting, refused to let me put comments on the record and was downright nasty. Clearly biased but that was the least of my problems. Her reputation is well known in the courthouse.

Comments:
She is clueless doesn't know the Law. Just appealed her stupid decision the panel was laughing at her. So a motion goes back to her and she gets upset so she punishes the winner.

Litigant

Comments:
Political interference in the work of this judge has become a matter of grave concern because her judicial decisions lack legal basis and appear to be decided to force exclusive outcomes.

I agree with the prior poster to the extent she's wrong on the law. My main issue is her judicial temperament which is horrific.

Wrong on the law. Desperately tries to settle cases just so juries won't non-suit plaintiff. Will bully the litigant who won't play ball with her.
