Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY8446
I once represented a defendant in a residential foreclosure action and he told me my client couldn't file an answer because it was a foreclosure. Seems to care little for the merits and is obviously interested almost exclusively in the status of the parties. Makes me thankful for the existence of the appellate division.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY5559
The most nakedly pro-plaintiff judge I have ever encountered, to the extent that one wonders if it is even worth it for a civil defendant to appear and argue, given that the outcome never really seems to be in doubt.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY5198
It is odd that he remains on the bench. He doesn't seem to enjoy it very much, and his health issues (he has a famously bad back) mean that he is actively uncomfortable most of the time. I can only assume that the joy he gets from screwing over defendants and defense counsel compensates for it. He is smart enough to be a better judge, but clearly feels no need to be.

Comment #: NY2476
WHY is this man still on the bench?

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY1066
This judge is unabashedly biased in favor of plaintiffs and could not care less how he is perceived by the bar or Appellate Division. His scores are impacted by the bias problem, as he would be a competent (not good, but competent) jurist if unbiased. Does not work hard and has indicated to all who will listen that he is merely holding out for the long-awaited judicial pay raise before retiring (to pad his pension). Is considered, at least by the civil defense bar, to be the worst draw in Erie County, and seems to end up assigned to matters involving one prominent local firm more than coincidence would allow.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY890
He does not pretend to be fair. He is very pro-plaintiff and runs his courtroom that way.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comment #: NY609
Very pro-plaintiff in an unabashed way. Very biased in rulings pre-trial and at trial.
